minutes of the current login (after the screen flashing each 15 second has started). When the
pop up status screen appears, it should indicate the option to press the Reset Button to request
the extension. The user must then press the Reset Button while the status screen is displayed.
The system will make the request from the remote server and if the extension is allowed, the
current login will be extended. If not, the user will be forced off normally. Once the time runs
out again the user can request further extension. If allowed, the current extended login will be
extended again. Otherwise the user will be logged off when time runs out.
Automatic Tapering Down Use – This allows the amount of daily time allowed in Gaming Mode
to be reduced automatically over time. A start date is set along with the daily reduction in
Gaming Mode allowed time in seconds and a maximum reduction in allowed time set in
minutes. When a user attempts to log into Gaming mode with this feature set, the amount of
allowed gaming time per day will be automatically reduced according to these settings. This
does require a Game Mode Max limit set for each day of the week as it does not change the
user’s start and end time limit settings.
Study Mode
From the Sentinel Login Screen, press “s” on the keyboard and the border around the screen
will change to red and the title will indicate Study Mode Login. Now select a user and password
(or press the Power Switch for User 1). If time is allowed in this mode, the system will power
with full screen performance for about 45 seconds and then changes to the same screen but
now in Study Mode. The mouse will appear slightly different. The video refresh performance
will now be noticeably slower.
Study Mode is intended to provide functional use for word processing, editing and light web
browsing without the temptation of watching videos or playing games. Study Mode
performance settings can be configured using the remote web interface. These settings will
only become active after re-running the Sentinel Setup program.
Tip: For best results in using Study mode, use the Page Up and Page Down keys or directly move
the scroll bar with the mouse to scroll up and down screens (such as word processors or web
browsers). Using the Up and Down arrows or mouse wheel will move the screen up and down by
only one line and will operate very slowly with screen refreshes made very noticeable.
Audio is not affected in Study Mode EXCEPT that it will not be output to a display with built in
speakers (HDMI / DisplayPort).
No Video Mode
This Mode, which is always available except during Lockout Times, allows the computer to
operate without a video display so that the user can perform tasks that do not require access to
the screen and does not use up Gaming Mode time. This is useful for listening to music or
performing routine system maintenance. While in Gaming Mode, press the front panel Power
