©2020 Sentinel Gaming Systems 8 Quick Setup/Operations Guide – Sentinel Mini 4.xx
Button once and the Status Screen is displayed. Immediately press the front panel Power
Button again. The system will automatically switch login types if allowed. If time is not allowed
for No Video Mode, the system will log out of Gaming Mode and an error message will be
shown.
You may log in to No Video Mode directly however, since the screen is not visible there is no
way to set the music or enable maintenance tasks to be performed. These can be set from a
prior Study Mode or Gaming Mode login if the computer is placed in “Sleep Mode” to power
down and then logging into No Video Mode.
You may switch back to Gaming Mode (assuming time is allowed) by pressing the front panel
Reset Button from the Status Screen displayed in No Video Mode.
Turning the System Off / System Shut Down
In Gaming or Study Mode, use the Windows® OS (i.e. mouse) to “Shut Down” or “Sleep” the
computer. This will automatically log off the current Sentinel User (1-8). “Sleep” places the
system in a low power standby state and the system must remain plugged in to allow the
system to restore properly. A “Log off” or “Restart” from Windows® does not shut down or log
off the currently logged in Sentinel user. To put the system to “Sleep” from No Video Mode,
press the Power button on the front panel.
Sleep, Hibernate when Time Limits Reached
At 10 minutes and 5 minutes remaining, the screen will blank once quickly to warn the user.
When only 2 minute remain, the screen will blank every 15 seconds until only 45 seconds
remain. Then the warnings end. When time finally runs out, the Windows® system will attempt
to “Sleep” as a way of shutting down. If the system does not power down (fans go quiet) after
about 30 seconds, the display will alternate between the Windows OS and the Sentinel “Please
Wait” screen. A delayed shut down may occur because the system needs user intervention to
close a dialogue screen, Windows® is attempting an update or preparing for “Sleep” or
“Hibernate”. If the system requires user intervention, use the mouse to choose shut down
options or close pending dialog windows. After several minutes the screen will switch and stay
on the Login Screen. Do not attempt to shut down the system using the Sentinel front panel
switch or unplug the system during this time. Eventually the system will power off on its own.
Because “Sleep” requires standby power, if you unplug power to the system it will create an
unstable power up condition next time you log in (will power off after powering on). We
recommend you manually “Shut Down” the system regularly and when you plan on
disconnecting power or transporting the system.
