©2020 Sentinel Gaming Systems 9 Quick Setup/Operations Guide Sentinel Mini 4.xx
Note - When the Sentinel system shuts off the Windows® system, it emulates a Power
Button press. The Power Button setting of the Windows® OS is set to “Sleep” by default
on the Mini. You may change the Power Button setting to “Shut Down” but NEVER to
“Do nothing” or it will not be possible to shut down properly from No-video Mode and
will waste electricity and create extra wear and tear on the computer. Further, it will
allow other users to access the current Windows® login when they login to the Sentinel.
Continuous Operation (>24 hours and past 2:59AM)
The Sentinel is designed to operate within set daily limits. By default, 3:00 AM is defined as the
start of the day rather than midnight. Users might want to use the computer past midnight and
the amount of time used past midnight, but before 3:00 AM would be associated with the prior
calendar day rather than the new calendar day. New logins initiated 15 minutes or less before
the new day (i.e. 2:45AM) are assigned to the new calendar day. Since most users will not use
the computer past even 2 AM or initiate a new login at 2:45 AM for the new day, this might
never be a point of confusion. If the computer is to be operated past 3:00 AM, continuously or
for more than 24 hours, there is an automatic login process that must occur before each “new”
day. Use at this time in the current mode must, of course be allowed. Otherwise the system will
shut down normally. Also, the Sentinel must have access to internet 100% of the time.
No-Video Mode Overnight
If the computer is to run overnight (i.e. for maintenance) and Gaming Mode is not allowed at
that time, use No-Video mode during the overnight hours. To keep the computer running
overnight, the user switches the system to No-Video Mode (Status Screen) before time runs
out. The computer will run overnight and then the user can switch back to Gaming Mode (press
“Reset” button) in the morning (assumes Gaming Mode is set to be enabled at that time). This
allows for overnight operation without shutting down the system. The display will run
continuously in No-Video Mode so powering off the monitor during the overnight hours may be
desirable.
