Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the ShoreDocker SD1200 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The ShoreDocker 1200/2000 is a DIY boat ramp kit designed to provide a safe, convenient, and easy way to launch and retrieve boats. This manual outlines the assembly process, usage instructions, and maintenance tips for both the SD1200 and SD2000 models.

Function Description:

The ShoreDocker boat ramp allows users to store their boat on shore and launch it into the water, or retrieve it from the water and store it on shore. It eliminates the need for repeated trailering and launching at a boat ramp, offering a more convenient solution for waterfront property owners. The ramp is designed to accommodate various boat types and sizes, with specific models tailored for different weight capacities. The system primarily consists of side rails, cross members, rollers, and a winch system, all working in conjunction to facilitate smooth boat movement.

Important Technical Specifications:

ShoreDocker 1200 (SD1200):

  • Maximum Boat Weight: 1200 lbs.
  • Personal Watercraft (PWC) and Jet Skis: Ideal for these types of vessels.
  • Component List Highlights:
    • Rollers: 20 roller brackets (2/roller), 20 roller brackets - right side, 20 roller brackets - left side.
    • Winch Post: 1 winch post brace - right side, 1 winch post brace - left side, 1 winch post.
    • Hardware: Various galvanized carriage bolts, hex nuts, flat washers, and deck screws.
    • Lumber: Requires 4x4x8' lumber for the winch post and 2x6x8' lumber for the side rails and cross members (user-supplied).
    • Pressure Treated Lumber: Recommended for durability in outdoor environments.

ShoreDocker 2000 (SD2000):

  • Maximum Boat Weight: 2000 lbs.
  • Boat Types: Suitable for larger boats, including fishing boats and runabouts.
  • Component List Highlights:
    • Rollers: 26 roller brackets (2/roller), 26 roller brackets - right side, 26 roller brackets - left side.
    • Winch Post: 1 winch post brace - right side, 1 winch post brace - left side, 1 winch post.
    • Hardware: Similar to SD1200 but with larger quantities and some heavier-duty components (e.g., 5/16" x 1/2" SS hex bolt).
    • Lumber: Requires 4x4x8' lumber for the winch post and 2x6x8' lumber for the side rails and cross members (user-supplied).
    • Pressure Treated Lumber: Recommended.

Common Specifications for both models:

  • Ramp Width: Adjustable to accommodate different boat hulls.
  • Ramp Length: Can be extended by adding more side rails and cross members.
  • Materials: Primarily galvanized steel components for corrosion resistance, designed to be used with pressure-treated lumber.
  • Winch System: Manual winch for pulling the boat up the ramp.
  • Rollers: Polyurethane rollers for smooth boat movement and hull protection.

Usage Features:

  • DIY Assembly: The kit is designed for easy assembly by the user, requiring basic tools and some carpentry skills. The manual provides detailed step-by-step instructions with diagrams.
  • Adjustable Design: The ramp's width and length can be customized to fit specific boat dimensions and waterfront conditions. The cross members can be adjusted to match the hull shape of the boat.
  • Winch Operation: The manual winch allows for controlled launching and retrieval. It's crucial to ensure the winch is securely mounted and operated correctly to prevent accidents.
  • Waterfront Adaptability: The ShoreDocker ramp can be adapted to various shorelines, including those with varying water depths and bottom compositions. For very soft bottoms, supporting legs can be added.
  • Safety First: The manual emphasizes safety precautions, such as never allowing anyone to operate the ramp unless they are familiar with all instructions, never drive the boat onto the ramp, and never release the handle or let the winch free-wheel when lowering the boat.
  • Maintenance: Regular inspection of all components, especially fasteners and rollers, is recommended. Lubrication of moving parts, particularly the winch, ensures smooth operation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspections: Periodically check all bolts, nuts, and screws for tightness. Loose fasteners should be tightened immediately.
  • Roller Condition: Inspect rollers for wear, damage, or flat spots. Damaged rollers should be replaced to prevent hull damage and ensure smooth operation.
  • Winch Maintenance: Lubricate the winch mechanism regularly, especially the gears and cable, to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation. Inspect the winch cable for fraying or damage and replace if necessary.
  • Lumber Inspection: Check the wooden components (side rails, cross members, winch post) for rot, cracks, or damage. Replace any compromised lumber to maintain structural integrity.
  • Corrosion Check: While galvanized components are corrosion-resistant, inspect them for any signs of rust, especially in areas where the coating might be compromised.
  • Cleaning: Keep the ramp free of debris, sand, and marine growth that could hinder roller movement or damage the boat's hull.
  • Warranty: The manufacturer offers a one-year warranty on parts, covering defects in workmanship. This warranty does not cover suitability for any specific use or general application. Claims require the damaged parts and a copy of the original sales receipt.

The ShoreDocker boat ramp provides a practical and durable solution for boat owners seeking a permanent and convenient way to manage their vessel at the waterfront. Adhering to the assembly instructions, usage guidelines, and maintenance recommendations will ensure years of reliable service.
