enclosures. Anti-static bags are sturdy, reusable, and should be stowed for later
use, instead of being discarded.
3. Wear a wrist grounding device and make sure it is in contact with the skin. Anti-
static wrist straps are also sold by electronic distributors, and consist of a
Velcro cuff wrapped around the wrist, with the other end snapped to the anti-
static mat. The cuff has enough conduction to drain off static charge, but not
enough to pose a serious shock hazard if another part of the body accidentally
comes in contact with a voltage source. The wrist strap is useless if not in
contact with the skin and ground. Wear a wrist strap at your work station as well
as when working in a cabinet.
4. Because you can receive a static shock when touching another person, never
hand an electronic module to another person. Set the module on an anti-static
conductive surface, then allow the other person to pick it up.
5. Keep all common plastics out of your static-free work areas, such as Styrofoam
cups, snack food bags, clear, white, or non-anti-static cushioning and wraps.
These items produce static electricity when handled.
6. If you are returning modules for factory maintenance, make sure they are inside
anti-static bags that have been saved from prior factory shipments. This will
prevent any further damage.
9.4 Module Installation
All EPAC M50-Series controller modules are factory-installed.
9.5 Controller Unit Installation
9.5.1 Ventilation
Observe the precautions of Paragraph 9.3.2 above. Proper ventilation is a must.
9.5.2 Grounding
Proper grounding of the EPAC M50-Series is imperative for reliable operation. The
rules listed below must always be followed when installing a EPAC M50-Series:
1 . An Equipment Ground must be established in the Cabinet. The Equipment
Ground is usually a copper rod driven into the ground, and connected by a
large conductor to a ground bar in the cabinet.
2. The metal “A” connector of the EPAC M50-Series must be attached to
Equipment Ground. This conductor is at the same voltage potential as the
Neutral (white) wire of the Power Line Cord, but does not carry current. The
ground conductor of the NEMA “A” connector provides a ground for noise
suppression circuitry inside the EPAC M50-Series Power Supply. This noise
