The Siemens OpenAir™ Air Damper Actuators, rotary version, are electronic motor-driven devices designed for precise control in HVAC systems. These actuators are available in both AC 24 V and AC 230 V models, offering flexibility for various electrical installations. They are suitable for both three-position and modulating control applications, making them versatile for different control strategies, such as those used for outside air dampers.
The primary function of these actuators is to control air dampers by rotating a shaft. They provide a nominal torque of 15 Nm, with a maximum blocked torque of 30 Nm, ensuring reliable operation even under demanding conditions. The self-centering shaft adapter simplifies installation and ensures proper alignment. The rotary angle range is mechanically adjustable between 0 and 90 degrees, with a maximum rotary angle of 95° ± 2°. The runtime for a 90° rotary angle is 150 seconds at 50 Hz and 125 seconds at 60 Hz.
For modulating control (GEB16..1 models), the actuators accept positioning signals in the range of DC 0-10 V, DC 2-10 V, or DC 0-35 V. Some models feature adjustable offset (Uo = 0-5 V) and span (AU = 2-30 V) for the positioning signal, allowing fine-tuning of the control characteristic. When self-adaptation of the rotary angle range is active, the actuator automatically determines the mechanical end positions and maps the characteristic function (Uo, AU) to the calculated rotary angle range. This feature simplifies commissioning and ensures optimal performance.
Position indication is available in both mechanical and electrical forms. Mechanical indication provides a visual representation of the damper's position. Electrical indication (for GEB16...1 models) generates an output voltage (U = DC 0-10 V) proportional to the rotary angle, which can be used for feedback to a control system. Some models (GEB132.1E, GEB332.1E) include a feedback potentiometer (1 kΩ) that can be connected to an external voltage to indicate the position.
Auxiliary switches (two per actuator, for GEB..6.1 and GEB164.1 models) are available for supplementary functions. The switching points for these auxiliary switches can be set independently in increments of 5 degrees within the 0-90 degree range, allowing for flexible integration with other control components. The actuators are prewired with 0.9 m long connection cables for ease of installation.
These actuators are designed for damper areas up to 3 m², depending on friction. They are suitable for modulating controllers (DC 0-10 V) or three-position controllers. For applications requiring higher torque, two actuators of the same type can be mounted on the same damper shaft in a "Powerpack" configuration, resulting in a double torque. However, this is not permitted for GEB16..1 models. The rotary angle of the shaft adapter can be mechanically limited in increments of 5 degrees.
The actuators comply with various standards and directives, including EN 60 730-2-14 (Product safety), EN 61 000-6-2 (EMC immunity for most models), EN 50 082-1 (EMC immunity for specific models), EN 50 081-1 (EMC emissions), 89/336/EEC (EMC directive), 73/23/EEC (Low voltage directive), and Australian EMC Framework (Radio Communication Act 1992, AS/NZS 3548).
Potentiometers and auxiliary switches cannot be added in the field; therefore, it is crucial to order the type that includes the required options. Individual parts, such as the position indicator and other mounting materials, are not mounted on delivery. This allows for flexibility during installation. The device's technical basics document and environmental declaration provide information on environmental compatibility and disposal. Accessories such as rotary/linear sets and weather protection covers are available to functionally extend the actuators.
