Overview

The Silhouette TMA - The Icon Model 5541 is a rimless eyewear frame designed for precision glazing and adjustment. This technical manual outlines the procedures for handling, adjusting, and maintaining the frame, emphasizing the use of specific tools and techniques to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Function Description:

The Silhouette TMA - The Icon is a lightweight, rimless eyewear frame that offers a customizable fit and aesthetic. Its design focuses on minimalist elegance and comfort, achieved through the use of high-quality materials and precise manufacturing. The frame's primary function is to securely hold prescription lenses while providing a comfortable and stable fit for the wearer. The rimless design minimizes visual obstruction and reduces the overall weight of the glasses, contributing to enhanced wearer comfort. The frame is designed to be highly adjustable, allowing for tailored fitting to various facial structures and ear shapes.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Frame Design: Rimless, with a 5.0 base curve. While designed for this base curve, other lens base curves can be accommodated, though they may require bridge adjustment.
  • Recommended Lenses: High Index 1.6, 1.67, Polycarbonate, and Trivex lenses are recommended for optimal performance and durability with this frame.
  • Mounting Pliers: Specific Silhouette pliers with gray or purple tips are required for mounting.
  • Mounting Sleeve: The BLS 58 sleeve is specified for mounting.
  • Drill Coordinates and Shape Files: OMA shape files and drill coordinates are available through the Silhouette portal (https://portal.silhouette.com) and silhouettelab.com.
  • Patterns: Patterns for the Model 5541 are available from Silhouette Customer Service (800-223-0180).
  • Temple Material: The temples incorporate a titanium wire, which allows for shortening and adjustment.
  • Multi-tool: A blue multi-tool is used for adjusting the temple opening (enlarging or reducing).

Usage Features:

  • Glazing: The frame is designed for a 5.0 base curve, but can accommodate other lens base curves with bridge adjustment. Recommended lens materials include High Index 1.6, 1.67, Polycarbonate, and Trivex. Mounting requires specific Silhouette pliers (gray or purple tip) and the BLS 58 sleeve. OMA shape files and drill coordinates are available online, and physical patterns can be obtained from customer service.
  • Inclination Adjustment: To adjust the inclination of the temples, the temple and lens mounting should be supported with mounting pliers to prevent stress on the lens mounting. The temple can then be carefully bent in the required direction.
  • Temple Opening Adjustment: The temple opening can be adjusted using the blue multi-tool. To enlarge the opening, hold the lens fixation firmly with fingers and use the multi-tool. To reduce the opening, similarly hold the lens fixation and use the multi-tool.
  • Temple Shortening (Non-Glued):
    1. The temple end can be pulled off.
    2. The titanium wire within the temple can be shortened using a metal-diagonal cutter.
    3. Sharp edges and burrs on the shortened wire must be filed down to ensure a smooth finish and prevent injury or damage.
    4. To ensure stability of the temple end and allow for reinstallation of the temple cover, the titanium wire should be squeezed at the very end with round pliers.
  • Temple End Adjustment: The temple should be adjusted to conform to the ear shape using large, gentle curves. It is crucial to avoid putting pressure on the temple tip during this adjustment to prevent damage or deformation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The frame can be cleaned using an ultrasonic bath or with ethanol/ethyl alcohol. These methods are safe for the frame and will not cause damage.
  • AR Coatings Caution: Lenses with Anti-Reflective (AR) coatings may be susceptible to damage in an ultrasound bath. Caution should be exercised when cleaning such lenses, and alternative cleaning methods might be preferred for AR-coated lenses.
  • Storage: To protect the frame and lenses from damage, it should always be stored in the supplied case when not in use. This helps prevent scratches, bending, and other forms of wear and tear.
