CLEANING AND SANITIZING PROCEDURES
TOOLS REQUIRED
FREQUENCE
Cleaning: Every six months
Sanitizing: Every month
NOTE. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE CAN BE
USED FOR EITHER SANITIZING OR DE-SCALING
THE ICE MACHINE.
NEVER MIX THE SANITIZING SOLUTION WITH THE
DE -SCALING SOLUTION.
IN CASE THE MACHINE NEEDS TO BE SANITISED
AND DE-SCALED, CLEAN THE MACHINE
THOROUGHLY, THEN FIRST DE-SCALE, AND AFTER
PROPER WASHING AND RINSING, DO THE
SANITATION.
WARNING. When using any chemical, protection of
hands and eyes should be worn.
NOTE. De-scaling is recommended every 6 months in
average water hardness conditions, while sanitizing
should take place once a month. Under extreme water
hardness conditions, we recommend to de-scale every
two – three months, and to sanitize every two weeks.
Sanitizing regularly will reduce bacteria growth, which is
natural in all water circulation systems as ice machines.
NOTE. Always follow approved Sanitizer / De-scaler
manufacturers instructions when preparing the Sanitizer
/De Scaler solutions.

Overview

This document outlines the cleaning and sanitizing procedures for SIMAG ICE MACHINES, specifically the SV 145-205, SV 225-325, SV 395-545 CUBERS, and R 100-130, R 150-190, R 250-300, R 400 STORAGE BINS. It provides detailed instructions for maintaining the hygiene and performance of these ice-making units.

Function Description:

The SIMAG ice machines are designed to produce ice, and the associated storage bins are for holding the produced ice. The document focuses on the essential maintenance procedures of cleaning and sanitizing to ensure the safe and efficient operation of these machines. Cleaning involves removing mineral deposits and other buildup, while sanitizing aims to eliminate bacteria and other microorganisms that can naturally grow in water circulation systems.

  • Cleaning Solution Quantities:
    • SV 145-205: 300 ml of cleaner
    • SV 225-325: 400 ml of cleaner
    • SV 395-545: 500 ml of cleaner
  • Water Temperature for Cleaning Solution: Max 40°C (lukewarm water).
  • Sanitizer Quantity: Approximately 5 ml of sanitizer (e.g., Amuchina) for the water reservoir.
  • Bin Sanitizing Solution: 1% Amuchina (sanitizer) mixed with fresh water.

The document details a step-by-step procedure for both de-scaling and sanitizing the ice machine. It emphasizes that de-scaling and sanitizing solutions should never be mixed. If both procedures are required, the machine should first be de-scaled, followed by proper washing and rinsing, and then sanitized.

Maintenance Features:

The maintenance procedures are broken down into several key stages:

  1. Preparation:

    • Disconnect power from the unit after the defrost cycle.
    • Close the water tap on the supply line.
    • Remove all ice from the bin, either saving it in a sanitary container or discarding it. If sanitizing is due, the machine should be switched off during evening closing to minimize waste.
    • Remove the front panel.
  2. Disassembly and Cleaning of Components:

    • Drain water from the unit by removing the drain plug.
    • Carefully remove the evaporator plastic cover.
    • Release and remove the upper ice sensor arms.
    • Cut the water inlet hose plastic clamp and disconnect the hose from the water distributor system and its fitting.
    • Push water level sensor clips and remove the sensor.
    • Lift up and remove the silicon cover.
    • Cut the water pump hose clamp.
    • Lift up and remove the left half water sump plastic cover.
    • Push the two water sump holding brackets and withdraw the water reservoir.
    • Remove the right half water sump plastic cover.
    • Unloose water pump bracket screws and slip the water pump off its seat.
    • Prepare the cleaning solution by diluting the specified amount of Ice Machine Cleaner in two liters of lukewarm water (max 40°C).
    • Clean the evaporator plastic cover, water distributor system, water reservoir, and its covers with the cleaning solution, then rinse with fresh water.
    • Carefully reinstall all removed parts.
  3. Automated Cleaning Cycle:

    • Turn the power ON and open the water tap.
    • Push the RESET BUTTON for 6-8 seconds until the BIN FULL YELLOW LED starts slowly blinking, indicating the unit is in "Cleaning cycle stand by MODE."
    • Push the RESET BUTTON again for a while. The WASH YELLOW LED will start blinking FAST, and the machine will enter the "Cleaning Cycle."
    • During this cycle (approx. 20 minutes), the water pump circulates the cleaning solution throughout the water system.
    • Push the RESET BUTTON again. The WASH YELLOW LED will blink three times and repeat, signaling the start of the "automatic rinsing mode."
    • In rinsing mode, the water pump and drain valve operate for 40 seconds to drain water, followed by the water pump circulating new fresh water for 3 minutes.
    • This rinsing sequence (draining and refilling) is repeated 7 times to ensure no de-scaling solution remains in the water system.
    • After the 7th rinsing cycle, the machine stops with the WASH YELLOW LED blinking slowly.
  4. Sanitizing the Water System and Ice Bin:

    • Drop approximately 5 ml of sanitizer (e.g., Amuchina) directly into the water reservoir.
    • Push the RESET BUTTON again. The water pump will start circulating the sanitizing solution for about 10 minutes.
    • Push the reset button for a while to restart rinsing. The PC Board will initiate 7 rinsing batches.
    • While the unit is in the sanitizing cycle, prepare a separate bin sanitizing solution: 1% Amuchina mixed with fresh water in a clean bucket.
    • Open the ice storage bin.
    • Fill a spray bottle with the bin sanitizing solution and spray it onto all internal walls and areas of the bin.
    • Using a proper brush, wipe all over the bin's inside areas.
  5. Final Steps:

    • Place back the front panel.
    • To restart normal freezing operation, push and hold the RESET BUTTON for 6-8 seconds.
    • ATTENTION: Discard the first 2-3 batches of ice produced after cleaning and sanitizing to ensure no chemical residue remains in the stored ice.

Maintenance Frequencies:

  • Cleaning (De-scaling): Every six months under average water hardness conditions. Under extreme water hardness conditions, de-scaling is recommended every two to three months.
  • Sanitizing: Every month under average water hardness conditions. Under extreme water hardness conditions, sanitizing is recommended every two weeks. Regular sanitizing reduces bacteria growth, which is natural in all water circulation systems like ice machines.

Safety Precautions:

  • Always wear protective gloves and eye protection when using any chemicals.
  • Always follow the approved Sanitizer/De-scaler manufacturer's instructions when preparing solutions.
