TIGHTENING OF CHAINS AND V-
BELTS
Chains and belts are mostly stretched in first
hour of work. After an hour of working with
the Maize harvester, picking 2 to 3 full
hoppers, turn off the machine and check the
tension of all chains and V-belts (use the
greasing scheme). If needed, tighten them
with stretchers, do not tighten them too
much. The chain must have 1% axe-
looseness between chain gears (2-3 mm). V-
belt can be pressed by thumb about 11 mm.
Transport chain of picking unit (pos. 1, fig.
11) is tightened by the tension spring (pos. 2,
fig. 11). Chain gear (pos. 3, fig. 11) must
have 3-5 mm movement. Tightening of
transport chain of the conveyor is to be done
on upper shaft, both sides equally (fig. 12).
Insufficiently tightened transport chain
causes the deviation of transport shovels and
lowers transport effect and increases cobs
damages. When replacing the chains, take
care of the locking-link position (fig. 13).
