The DA 820F-3 VFD Fan High Pressure is a ventilation system designed for livestock houses, specifically for applications requiring high working pressure up to 180 Pa. This system consists of a 3x400 V fan and a frequency converter, which controls the fan's operation. The frequency converter receives a 10-0 V signal from a climate controller, allowing for precise regulation of the fan speed.
Function Description:
The DA 820F-3 VFD fan is an ON/OFF fan controlled by a robust frequency converter, designed for three-phase fans. It is primarily used in exhaust units and for wall exhaustion in livestock houses where high-pressure ventilation is necessary. The system is engineered for high-pressure stability and performance. It is important to note that this fan is intended for use exclusively in Dynamic MultiStep systems and should not be combined with other fan types due to the significant pressure differences involved. Standard MultiStep systems are not compatible. The fan is ErP 2015 approved, indicating its compliance with energy-related product directives.

Usage Features:
- Mounting: The fan can be mounted in exhaust units or directly in the wall. For exhaust unit mounting, a suspension ring is placed 200 mm from the top edge and secured with M8x30 screws, washers, and self-locking nuts. The fan blades must face downward. For wall exhaustion, the terminal box on the fan must be turned, and the drain screw removed. The fan blades must face inwards. A support kit is used for wall mounting, involving threaded rods and nuts to adjust the fan's position relative to the wall.
- Safety Distance: When the distance from the floor to the fan blade is less than 270 cm, a protective mesh must be installed in the inlet bell mouth to comply with statutory requirements.
- Motor Controller/Frequency Converter Position: The motor controller/frequency converter should be mounted on a solid, level surface, not built-in or covered. It must be positioned so that the ambient temperature is between +20°C and +40°C and protected from direct sunlight. The start temperature is +15°C to +40°C. It should be mounted as close to the fan as possible, and the included 5m cable must not be extended. It can be mounted on a wooden plate fastened to a rafter or directly on the chimney.
- Electrical Connection: All electrical work must be performed by qualified personnel according to EN 60204-1 and other applicable EU standards. A power supply isolator is required for each motor and power supply. When retrofitting fans, SKOV recommends consulting a local expert to check cable dimensions, overload protections, and transformers.
- Harmonic Distortion: LPC motor controllers and frequency converters convert AC to DC, producing non-sinusoidal current that can cause harmonic distortion in the mains supply. The electrician or user must ensure the equipment is connected to a properly sized mains supply.
- Overvoltage Protection: SKOV A/S equipment has high-level surge transient protection, but additional Surge Protection Devices (SPD) are recommended, especially in areas with frequent lightning strikes or power outages. A minimum Type 2/Class II device (8/20µs - 40kA/phase or higher) should be installed in each livestock house wiring box. In areas with high surge overvoltage, a Type 1/Class I device (10/350µs - 25kA/phase or higher) is recommended at the transformer/ATS as the first protection device, along with Type 2 devices in wiring boxes.
- Cabling: A hole must be drilled in the exhaust unit duct for the fan cable, pulling it along a support to the motor controller/frequency converter. To prevent water from entering the motor controller/frequency converter, the cabling must be carried out so that water can stand around the cable in the gasket of the screwed connection. The shield connection for the fan cable must be clamped around the shield.
- Display and Operation: The motor controller has a 6-digit 7-segment LED display for warnings and real-time information. Navigation, Up, Down, Reset/Stop, and Start buttons are used for operation and parameter editing.
- Analog Input: The factory setting for the analog input is 10-0 V, but it can be changed to 0-10 V via the display menu (P-16 parameter).
- Jumper and Shutter Connection: A jumper on the PCB sets the desired function for the actuator. LED indications show the status (slow flashing for OK, quick flashing for error). Terminals are provided for actuator control, +24 V DC supply, 0 V, 0-10 V position feedback, and open collector output for fans with motor controllers. Relay outputs are available for fans without motor controllers.
Maintenance Features:
- Safety First: Always shut off the fan at the isolator and wait 10 minutes for capacitors to discharge before any maintenance or troubleshooting to prevent serious injury.
- Annual Inspection: Check blades and suspension units at least once a year for damage. Contact service for abnormal noise or vibration. Repairs must only be carried out by authorized personnel.
- Fan Cleaning: Clean the fan regularly to ensure unobstructed air passage.
- When washing the inside of the ducts, fan blades must remain still. High-pressure cleaning is not recommended for fans. SKOV A/S suggests washing from above for thorough cleaning.
- When washing the fan itself, the fan must run. Again, high-pressure cleaning is not recommended.
- After cleaning, it is recommended to run the fan at 100% for at least one hour to dry off any moisture. If the fan has a tailstock screw in the drain hole, it can be removed during this hour.
- Motor Controller/Frequency Converter Cleaning: Keep the cooling ribs on the controller dust-free, for example, by using compressed air, to ensure sufficient cooling. Clean the product with a cloth wrung out almost dry in water. Avoid high-pressure cleaners, solvents, and corrosive/caustic agents.
- Troubleshooting: The manual provides detailed troubleshooting guides for the shutter system and fan motor, including common errors, LED indications, and solutions.
- Recycling/Disposal: Products are designed for recycling and are marked with a pictogram. Customers should deliver used products to local collection sites/recycling stations, which will arrange for transport to certified plants for reuse, recovery, and recycling.
