Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions and advice for the use, installation, and maintenance of built-in electric hobs. It emphasizes safety, proper operation, and care to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the appliance.

Function Description

The electric hob is designed exclusively as a cooking appliance, featuring electric plates for heating food. It is equipped with two types of electric plates: normal and rapid, each controlled by a 7-position switch. A warning light indicates when one or more plates are in operation. The appliance is intended for domestic use, facilitating various cooking processes from gentle simmering to rapid boiling and frying.

Usage Features

The hob's electric plates are controlled by rotary knobs, with a diagram on the front panel indicating which knob corresponds to which plate. The 7-position switch allows for precise heat intensity regulation, ranging from "Off" (position 0) to "High" (position 6).

  • Position 0 (Off): The plate is inactive.
  • Position 1 (Weak): Ideal for dissolving delicate ingredients like butter or chocolate, or heating small amounts of liquid gently.
  • Position 2 (Low): Suitable for heating larger quantities of liquid, preparing creams, and sauces that require long, slow cooking times.
  • Position 3 (Slow): Used for thawing frozen foods, preparing stews, or bringing liquids to a boiling point before simmering.
  • Position 4 (Medium): Designed for heating foods to boiling point and browning delicate meats and fish.
  • Position 5 (Strong): Perfect for cooking escalopes and steaks, or simmering large amounts of food.
  • Position 6 (High): For bringing large amounts of liquid to a rapid boil and for frying.

For efficient cooking and energy saving, it is recommended to use thick, flat-bottomed pots and pans that match the diameter of the heating element. Cooking with a lid on also helps conserve energy. Once food reaches boiling point, the heat element should be turned down.

Important Usage Warnings and Advice:

  • Initial Use: When switched on for the first time, or after a long period of disuse, the plate should be dried for 30 minutes on switch position 1 to eliminate any absorbed moisture.
  • Pan Placement: Always place a pan on the plate before switching it on.
  • Pan Type: Use pans with flat and very thick bottoms.
  • Pan Size: Never use pans smaller than the plate diameters.
  • Pan Dryness: Dry the bottom of the pan before placing it on the plate.
  • Plate Preservation: After use, treat the plate with special products available on the market to keep its surface clean, bright, and prevent rust.
  • Child Safety: Never allow children to play near the appliance when the plates are in use.
  • Handle Position: Ensure pan handles are positioned correctly to avoid accidents.
  • Unattended Cooking: Never leave the appliance unattended, especially when cooking with flammable oil or fat. Unattended cooking with fat or oil can be dangerous and lead to fire. In case of fire, do NOT use water; switch off the appliance and cover the flame with a lid or fire blanket.
  • Hot Surfaces: The plates remain hot for a long time after use. Avoid touching them or placing objects on them to prevent scorching.
  • Glass Lids: If the appliance has a glass lid, it could shatter when the cooker becomes hot. Always disconnect all plates before closing the lid.
  • Cracks: Immediately disconnect the appliance from the electricity main if cracks are noted on the surfaces of the plates.
  • Container Size: Containers wider than the unit are not recommended.
  • Empty Operation: Absolutely do not operate the electric plates empty (without a container).
  • Liquid Spills: Try not to pour liquids on the plates when they are hot.
  • Cooking with Cover: Cook with a cover whenever possible to save electricity.
  • Direct Cooking: Never cook food directly on the electric plates; always use a pot or container.
  • Storage: Do not store items on the cooking surfaces due to fire danger.
  • Hob Guards: Use only hob guards designed or indicated by the manufacturer as suitable. Inappropriate guards can cause accidents.
  • Supervision: The cooking process must be supervised, and short-term cooking processes require continuous supervision.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the appliance's performance and safety. Always disconnect the appliance from the electricity main before any cleaning or servicing operation.

Cleaning:

  • General Cleaning: Do not touch the appliance with wet or damp hands or feet. Do not use the appliance barefoot.
  • Hotplate Cleaning: To preserve a clean and bright surface, periodically wash the hotplate with lukewarm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry all parts. Never wash them while they are still warm.
  • Abrasive Cleaners: Do not use abrasive powders.
  • Corrosive Substances: Do not allow vinegar, coffee, milk, salted water, lemon, or tomato juice to remain in contact with enamelled surfaces for long periods, as this can cause damage.
  • Plate Preservation: After use, treat the plate with special products to maintain its clean and bright surface and prevent rust.
  • Spills: Any liquid overflowed from pans must be immediately removed with a rag.
  • Steam Jets: Do not use steam jets for cleaning the equipment.
  • Burned Food: Burned food on an electric plate must be removed dry.
  • Post-Use Wipe: After use, pour a little lukewarm oil on the plate and wipe it with a cloth.
  • Knob Position: After using the cooktop, ensure the knob is in the closed position.

Servicing and Repairs:

  • Qualified Personnel: Installation and maintenance must only be carried out by a qualified installer. The manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by improper, incorrect, or unreasonable use, or incorrect installation.
  • Electrical Components: For access to electrical components (plates, commutators, clamps, input cable), remove the hotplate from the top of the cabinet, overturn it, unscrew, and remove the under part.
  • Input Cable Replacement: If replacing the input cable, the installer must ensure the "earth" conductor is longer than "live" ones and adhere to the "Electrical connection" cautions.
  • Technical Assistance: Any repairs or adjustments should be carried out by qualified personnel. Always contact your Dealer or nearest After Sales Centre, specifying the type of fault and appliance model. Genuine spare parts are only available from authorized service centres and retail outlets.
  • Data Label: Appliance data (mark, model, series) is printed on the data label on the inferior part of the appliance and on the packing label, which is essential for obtaining correct spare parts and service.

Installation:

  • Condition Check: After unpacking, check the appliance for good condition. Do not use if in doubt and contact qualified personnel.
  • Packaging Materials: Keep packaging materials (cardboard, bags, polystyrene foam, nails) out of reach of children as they pose a danger.
  • Cabinet Opening: Ensure the cabinet opening measurements comply with the figures provided in the manual.
  • Wood Installation: If wood is installed above the hob, refer to the hood manufacturer's instructions for the minimum distance between the hood and hob.
  • Hob Sealing: The hob has a special seal to prevent liquid infiltration. Apply the seal correctly by detaching it from its backing, ensuring the transparent protection adheres. Position the seal under the hob's edge, matching the outer perimeter. Fix the seal securely, remove the protective paper, and set the plate into the cabinet hole.
  • Fixing to Worktop: Fix the hotplate to the worktop using brackets "S." Ensure the tag fits into hole "H" on the hotplate base, then tighten screw "F" until it is locked to the worktop.
  • Separation Plane: Due to potential overheating, a separation plane made of wood, blocked by screws, must be installed under the cooktop at a minimum distance of 70 mm from the top.
  • Material Resistance: The glue joining laminated plastic to furniture must resist temperatures not below 150 °C to prevent panel unstuck.
  • Adjacent Surfaces: Rear, adjacent, and surrounding surfaces must withstand a temperature of 90 °C.

Electrical Connections:

  • Compliance: Electrical connection must comply with current specifications and provisions.
  • Voltage and Power: Check that the appliance's voltage rating and current sockets match its maximum power draw (found on the data label).
  • Earth Connection: The system must have an efficient earth connection. The manufacturer disclaims responsibility for non-compliance.
  • Power Cable: If no power cable is supplied, connect a cable of adequate section to the terminal strip, following the wiring diagram.
  • Socket Connection: If connecting via a socket (gas version only), fit a standard plug (if supplied) that can bear the load indicated on the data label. Connect wires according to the diagram: L (live) = brown, N (neutral) = blue, earth symbol = green-yellow.
  • Cable Positioning: The powering cable must not reach temperatures of 90 °C.
  • Avoid Adapters: Do not use reductions, adapters, or shunts for connection to prevent false contacts and overheating.
  • Accessibility: The outlet must be accessible after built-in installation.
  • Direct Connection: If connecting directly to the electricity main, install an omnipolar cutout between the appliance and the main. This circuit-breaker should be sized according to the appliance's rating, with an opening between contacts of at least 3 mm.
  • Earth Wire: The earth wire must not be cut out by the switch.
  • Differential Switch: The electrical connection may be protected by a high-sensitivity differential switch.
  • Earthing System: Installers are advised to connect the yellow-green earthing wire to an efficient earthing system. The manufacturer is not responsible for missing earthing.
  • Disconnection for Service: Before any electrical service, the appliance must be disconnected from the electrical network.
  • System Modifications: If the electrical system requires modifications or the socket is incompatible, have a qualified person perform changes or replacements, ensuring the socket wires' section is suitable for the appliance's power absorption.
