How to fix Snapper E281320BE, E331520KVE Lawn Mower engine that will not start using recoil starter?
    • S
      Stephanie Spencer DDSAug 17, 2025
If your Snapper Lawn Mower engine won't start using the recoil starter, it might be due to several reasons. First, ensure the fuel tank isn't empty by filling it with fresh fuel. If that's not the issue, the engine may need choking; move the choke control to the “CHOKE” position. Also, check the spark plug wire and ensure it's securely placed onto the spark plug. Verify the parking brake is engaged and the ignition switch is in the RUN position. If none of these steps work, there may be a faulty parking brake, blade, or ignition switch, and you should contact an authorized SNAPPER dealer.

If your Snapper Lawn Mower engine won't start using the electric starter, begin by filling the fuel tank with fresh fuel to the proper level. Ensure the choke control is in the “CHOKE” position. Check that the spark plug wire is connected to the spark plug. Verify that the parking brake is engaged and the ignition is in the START position. Also, check the fuse and replace it with a new 20 AMP fuse if it's blown. Charge or replace the battery if it's weak or dead, and clean/connect the battery cables, replacing them if broken. For a faulty electric starter, starter solenoid, or interlock module, contact an authorized SNAPPER dealer. Connect the starter cable, replacing it if broken, and connect or replace the wiring harness if disconnected or broken.

Make sure the engine speed isn't too slow by moving the throttle control to the “FAST” position and adjust the forward speed by moving the transmission shift lever to a slower speed if it is too fast. Adjust the side-to-side level if there's a terraced cut, and adjust the front-to-rear pitch if there's excessive deck pitch. Sharpen or replace cutting blades if they're dull or damaged and adjust the tension or replace the mower belt if it's slipping.
