UNIT
CHAIN
CASE
The
chain
drive
on
the
rear
tine
tiilers
is
very
similar
in
design
to
that
used
for
years
on
the
Snapper
front
tine
tiilers.
There
are,
however,
certain
refinements
on
the
rear
tine
type.
If
the
tines
stop
rotating
and
the
cause
is
not
due
to
the
drive
belt
or
broken
shear
pins,
the
chain
may
be
broken
or
off
the
sprocket
gears
and
or
the
sprocket
gear
teeth
may
be
sheared
caliing
for
overhaui
of
the
chain
case.
Aithough
not
absolutely
necessary,
the
tiller
unit
should
be
separated
from
the
traction
drive
unit
for
easier
handling
during
overhaul.
SEPARATING
UNITS
Remove
the
drive
belt
before
separating
the
tiller
unit
from
the
traction
drive
unit.
On
5HP
models,
remove
the
four
nuts
securing
the
tiller
to
the
tractor
unit.
On
8HP
models
simply
pull
the
hair
pin
and
clevis
pin
to
separate
the
units.
NOTE:
On
later
RTS
models,
remove
two
nuts
before
separating
units.
With
the
exception
of
the
mounting
method,
the
tiller
units
are
the
same
on
the
5
and
8
horsepower
units.
After
separating
the
tiller,
move
it
to
a
workbench
for
overhaul.
