This document describes the SOYAL AR-721U, AR-721K, and AR-661U access control devices, focusing on their features, installation, wiring, and technical specifications.
The SOYAL AR-721U, AR-721K, and AR-661U are access control devices designed for integration with SOYAL or other access control systems. They offer programmable output formats, a built-in watchdog for system stability, and visual/auditory indicators.
Function Description
These devices primarily function as readers for access control systems. They are capable of reading cards or key tags and transmitting the data to a controller. The AR-721K model includes a 12-key keypad for additional input, allowing for PIN entry or other keypad-based functions. The AR-661U is a long-range reader, suitable for applications requiring greater reading distances. All models are designed for easy integration and offer various output formats to ensure compatibility with different access control systems.

Installation and Maintenance Features
Installation Steps (AR-721U):
- Screw the mounting plate to the wall.
- Route cable ends through the access hole in the mounting plate. Ensure the AR-721U is connected before applying power to the single door controller.
- Attach the AR-721U to the mounting plate.
- Apply power; the red LED will flash once, and the beeper will sound.
Installation Steps (AR-721K):
- Screw the mounting plate to the wall.
- Route cable ends through the access hole in the mounting plate. Ensure the AR-721K is connected before applying power to the single door controller.
- Connect plug P1 to socket CN1, P2 to CN2, and P3 to CN3 on the AR-721K circuit board.
- Attach the AR-721K to the mounting plate and secure it with the supplied screw and Allen wrench.
- Apply power; the red LED will flash once, and the beeper will sound. Refer to the manual for programming instructions.
Installation Notice (General for AR-721U/K):
- Mounting Location: Single door controllers should be located inside the secure area as an exit controller. Auxiliary readers should be on the exterior wall as an entrance reader, but not directly behind the single door controller.
- Optimal Reading Distance: For best reading distance, offset the single door controller and auxiliary reader by approximately 50 cm above and 12 m below (suggestion value).
- Metal Surface Impact: Mounting directly on a metal surface can slightly decrease the reading distance. To mitigate this, install wood or plastic between the mounting surface and mounting plate to restore most of the reading distance.
- AR-721U Size: The AR-721U is narrow enough to mount on most mullions and door frames.
- AR-721K Coverage: The AR-721K can cover standard electrical boxes.
PCB Board Configuration:
- AR-721U (No Waterproof): Output format selection is done via jumpers on the PCB for WG 26 (Default), WG 34, RS-232, and ABA II.
- AR-721U (Waterproof): Output format selection is done by connecting for WG34 bit (Default) or cutting for WG26 bit.
- AR-721K: Output format selection is done via jumpers on the PCB for WG 26 (Default), WG 34, ABA 10, SOYAL Format, and EM Format (Default).
