Overview

The SpeedyBee Meteor LED Strip is an integrated lighting solution designed for drones, featuring a wireless configuration module for easy setup and adjustments via the SpeedyBee APP. This user manual details its configuration, installation, and specific functionalities.

Function Description:

The Meteor LED Strip provides customizable lighting for drones, enhancing visibility and aesthetic appeal. It integrates a Bluetooth configuration module, allowing users to wirelessly control and adjust LED settings through the SpeedyBee APP. The LED strip is pre-soldered for convenience, simplifying the installation process.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Indicator: A red indicator light on the BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) serves as the power indicator, remaining on when power is supplied.
  • Bluetooth Status Indicator: The first LED on the light strip indicates the Bluetooth status:
    • Solid green: Bluetooth is connected.
    • Flashing green: Bluetooth is not connected.
    • Green light off: Bluetooth is turned off.
  • Bluetooth Auto-Off: The Bluetooth configuration function automatically turns off one minute after power is supplied. The timer pauses during configuration and restarts for one minute after the connection is disconnected.
  • Input Voltage Range (LED Strip Wireless Configuration): 2-6S lithium battery.
  • Input Voltage Range (FC Wireless Configuration): 2-6S lithium battery.
  • UART Baud Rate (FC Wireless Configuration): 115200.
  • DFU Mode Compatibility: The Meteor LED can be used to enter DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode on the flight controller via a button on the BEC module. This feature is compatible only with flight controllers that have BOOT solder pads, such as the SpeedyBee F4mini flight controller.
  • Installation Hardware (Bee35 Meteor LED): M2.58 self-tapping screw and M318 screw.

Usage Features:

LED Strip Wireless Configuration:

This method is applicable if your flight controller has a built-in Bluetooth configuration feature.

  • Wiring: Connect the red wire to the BAT pad of the flight controller (or the positive pole of the power cable) and the black wire to the G pad of the flight controller (or the negative pole of the power cable). The input voltage range should be 2-6S lithium battery.
  • Wireless Control: Once wired, the LED strip can be configured wirelessly using the SpeedyBee APP without needing to solder TX and RX pads.

FC Wireless Configuration:

This method is for flight controllers without built-in Bluetooth configuration capabilities.

  • Wiring:
    • Solder the red wire to the BAT pad on the flight controller (or positive pole of the power cable) for a 2-6S lithium battery.
    • Solder the black wire to the GND pad on the flight controller (or negative pole of the power cable).
    • Identify an unused UART on the flight controller. Solder the yellow wire to the RX pad of that UART and the white wire to the TX pad of the UART (e.g., UART 1).
  • Software Configuration (Computer):
    • Connect the flight controller to a computer configurator.
    • Navigate to the ports page.
    • Enable MSP for the UART connected to the Meteor LED.
    • Set the baud rate to 115200.
    • Click 'Save and Reboot'.
  • Wireless Configuration (SpeedyBee APP):
    • Power up the drone.
    • Open the SpeedyBee APP.
    • Click the plus sign at the bottom and select 'SpeedyBee MeteorLED'.
    • Once connected, click on 'FC Tuning' for wireless configuration. The app also provides an 'LED Strip Editor' for customizing LED effects.

BOOT Mode:

The Meteor LED's BEC module includes a button that allows you to put the flight controller into DFU mode.

  • Procedure:
    1. Press and hold the BEC button.
    2. Power up the drone.
    3. Plug in the USB cable to enter DFU mode.
  • Compatibility: This feature is only supported by flight controllers with BOOT solder pads, such as the SpeedyBee F4mini.

Bee35 Meteor LED Installation Instructions:

This section provides specific instructions for installing the Meteor LED on a Bee35 drone.

  • Mounting: The LED strip is mounted using M2.58 self-tapping screws and M318 screws, as illustrated in the manual. The images show the LED strip integrated into the drone's frame, providing illumination around the propellers.

Maintenance Features:

  • Wireless Updates and Adjustments: The SpeedyBee APP facilitates wireless configuration and adjustments, simplifying maintenance and customization without requiring physical connections or complex soldering after initial setup.
  • Clear Status Indicators: The red power indicator and green Bluetooth status LED provide immediate visual feedback on the device's operational status, aiding in troubleshooting.
  • Automatic Bluetooth Shutdown: The automatic shutdown of the Bluetooth configuration function after one minute helps conserve power and ensures the module is not unnecessarily active.
