Overview

The Star Grill-Max Roller Grill, available in Series 20, 30, 45A, 50, and 75A, is a commercial appliance designed for cooking and holding a variety of food products, particularly hot dogs. It is intended for use by trained personnel in food service locations and is not sold for consumer use.

Function Description:

The roller grill features multiple heated rollers that continuously rotate, ensuring even cooking and warming of food items. The heating section is divided into two individually controlled heat sections: a right control for the rear section and a left control for the front section, offering flexibility in temperature management. A main switch on the control panel controls all power to the unit, activating roller rotation, while individual heat controls regulate the temperature. The main switch is lighted to indicate when the unit is on (except for model 75AFV). Signal lights above each heat control indicate when the respective heated section is active. An additional light on the end housing indicates the main power switch's position, especially when the control panel view is obstructed by an optional bun drawer or merchandising door. Some models are equipped with bun boxes, which require the removal of the bun drawer for access to the bun pan and drip tray. The bun drawer features a self-closing mechanism, which functions optimally when the unit is level.

Important Technical Specifications:

The grill operates on alternating current (AC) only, and the specified voltage must be applied. Direct current (DC) connection is explicitly prohibited. Connection loads (wattage) vary by model series:

  • Series 20, 20S: 930W
  • Series 30, 30S, 30F, 30SF, 30BB, 30BBC, 30SBB, 30DV: 1150W
  • Series 45A, 45SA, 45ABB, 45SABB, 45ADV: 1650W
  • Series 50, 50S, 50F, 50SF, 50BB, 50BBC, 50SBB, 50DV: 1535W
  • Series 75A, 75SA, 75ABB, 75SABB, 7FAF, 75SAF (208/240V): 1810/2400W
  • Series 75A, 75SA, 75ABB, 75SABB, 75ADV (230V): 2210W
  • Series 75A, 75AF, 75SA, 75SAF, 75ABB, 75SABB, 75ADV (120V): 1700W
  • Series 75AFV (120V): 2880W

The unit should be connected to a wall-type receptacle, a direct line, or an individual branch circuit, with an individual branch circuit being preferred to prevent improper operation due to overloading. Adjustable 4-inch legs are standard on the 75A series and available for other models to ensure leveling.

Usage Features:

The heat controls offer an infinite range of settings, allowing for versatile cooking of various food products. Factors such as product size, content, shape, and the presence of sanitary food shields or sneeze guards will influence the optimal heat setting. To comply with National Sanitation Foundation requirements, perishable foods must be maintained at 140°F (60°C) or above during serving periods, and should not be kept at a low setting for more than two hours. Food products should be refrigerated until ready for use. Cooking times will vary based on the starting temperature and product quality. For best results with hot dogs, it is recommended to use hot dogs specifically made for grilling.

When handling food products on the grill, only plastic or coated utensils should be used. Metal utensils can scratch the roller coating, which can affect the rollers' cleanability and potentially void the warranty.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning is crucial for the longevity and performance of the roller grill. Before initial use, the rollers should be washed with mild soap and water using a soft cloth. The rollers are most easily cleaned when hot, but caution must be exercised to prevent burns or bodily injury. When cleaning, wipe from the ends to the center to avoid forcing debris into the roller seals. It is important to prevent food product from building up and baking onto the roller surface.

For the exterior of the unit, a mild detergent or non-abrasive cleaner should be used for daily cleaning to maintain an attractive appearance. The unit should not be cleaned with water jet equipment.

Important Maintenance Cautions:

  • Do NOT use steel wool or abrasive cleaners on the rollers, as this will scratch the coating, damage roller bearings, and void the warranty.
  • Do NOT use metal utensils when cooking, as they can scratch the roller coating.
  • Do NOT connect the unit to direct current (DC).

For service or required maintenance, users should contact their local authorized service agent. The Star Service Help Desk (1-800-807-9054) is available during normal business hours for assistance. When contacting support, it is important to have the model number and serial number readily available for faster service. Replacement cord sets must be purchased from Star Manufacturing International, Inc.
