Do you have a question about the StarCharge Artemis 7kW and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Artemis 7/11kW Charging System is an Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) designed for charging Electric Vehicles (EVs) in both indoor and outdoor environments. This document serves as a user manual, providing essential information for EVSE owners and qualified engineers regarding its installation, operation, commissioning, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Artemis charging system facilitates the charging of Electric Vehicles. It is designed to be user-friendly, offering multiple authentication methods for initiating and stopping charging sessions, including RFID cards, QR codes via a charging application (EU only), and a "free charge" mode for direct plug-and-charge functionality. The system is equipped with an LED indicator that provides visual feedback on its operational status, such as starting up, backend not connected, standby, firmware upgrading, charging connector connected, RFID authentication, active charging, charging suspended, and fault conditions. An optional emergency button is integrated to immediately cut off power output in critical situations, turning the LED indicator red upon activation. In the absence of an emergency button, users are instructed to power off the EVSE in an emergency.

Important Technical Specifications:

The Artemis charging system is available in two main models:

    • Rated Voltage: Single phase, 230V AC
    • Rated Frequency: 50/60 Hz
    • Output: Max. 32 A/7 kW
    • Operation Temperature: -30°C to 50°C
    • Ingress Protection: IP 65
    • Protective Class: I
    • Manufacturer: Wanbang Digital Energy Co., Ltd.
    • Charging Cable Length: 5 meters
  • Artemis 11kW AC Charger:
    • Model: XXXXXXXXXXXXX
    • Rated Voltage: Three phase, 400V AC
    • Rated Frequency: 50/60 Hz
    • Output: Max. 16 A/11 kW
    • Operation Temperature: -30°C to 50°C
    • Ingress Protection: IP 65
    • Protective Class: I
    • Manufacturer: Wanbang Digital Energy Co., Ltd.
    • Charging Cable Length: 5 meters

Both models are supplied with Type 2 connectors on their charging cables. The physical dimensions for the wall-mounted EVSE are approximately 280mm (width) x 280mm (height), while the pole-mounted EVSE stands at approximately 930mm in height with a similar width of 280mm. The system is designed to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi, becoming available approximately 5 minutes after power-on.

Usage Features:

The Artemis charging system offers a straightforward charging process with several user-friendly features:

  • Charging Modes: Users can choose between RFID card authentication, QR code scanning via a dedicated charging app (for EU regions), or a "free charge" mode that allows immediate charging upon connection.
  • RFID Card Charging: To start, users pull out the connector, plug it into the EV, and then authorize the charge by placing an RFID card before the reader. The LED indicator will flash blue 8 times per second to confirm successful authorization, then breathe blue during active charging. To stop, the RFID card is placed before the reader again until the LED is steady blue, or the system automatically stops if the EV is fully charged.
  • QR Code Charging (EU only): After connecting the charger to the EV, users open the charging app, scan the QR code on the EVSE, and tap "Start Charging." The LED will breathe blue during charging. To stop, users open the app and tap "Stop Charging," or the system will automatically stop when the EV is fully charged.
  • Free Charging: This mode allows users to simply plug the connector into the EV to initiate charging. The LED indicator will turn blue solid upon correct connection and then breathe blue during charging. To stop, users disconnect the connector.
  • LED Status Indicator: A multi-color LED provides clear visual cues for various operational states, including steady white for startup, yellow flashing for backend not connected, green flashing for standby or firmware upgrades, steady blue for connected, blue flashing for RFID authentication, blue breathing for active charging, blue flashing for suspended charging, and steady red/flashing for fault conditions.
  • Emergency Button (Optional): An emergency button allows for immediate power cut-off in emergencies, turning the LED red. This feature requires manual reset by a professional after activation.

Maintenance Features:

Maintenance and installation of the Artemis charging system must be performed by qualified electricians (Star Charge certified partners) to ensure safety and proper functioning.

  • Safety Protocols: All installation and wiring must be done when AC cables are de-energized to prevent electrical accidents. Users are advised not to clean the EVSE with running water or pressure washers and to avoid modifying the unit without Star Charge approval.
  • Disposal: In accordance with European Directive 2012/19/EU (WEEE), the device must be collected separately and recycled responsibly. Users are encouraged to return used devices to their dealer or seek information on local authorized collection and disposal systems.
  • Troubleshooting: In case of a red or flashing LED indicator, users are instructed to contact the dealer and service team for assistance. For issues with the emergency button, customer service should be contacted for professional reset.
  • Fire Safety: Guidelines include not storing flammable materials near the EVSE, having at least two fire extinguishers readily accessible, and following an emergency response plan in case of fire, which includes stopping charging, calling the fire department, evacuating, and using extinguishers if safe.

The manual emphasizes adherence to local rules and instructions, with local regulations taking precedence if they are stricter than those outlined in the manual. It also highlights the importance of using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and insulated tools when handling electrical connections.
