The STIHL 046 is a new high-performance profes-
sional chainsaw. It has been developed on the
basis of the STIHL 044.
The engine delivers ample power and high torque
at relatively low revs and is characterized by
outstanding reliability and a long service life.
A new longlife air filter system with easily changed
filter elements and optimized sealing helps reduce
maintenance and increases operational reliability.
The new lightweight flywheel with polymer fan and
small, low weight high-power magnets increases
cooling air throughput by 30 %. Its lower weight
also improves engine acceleration from idle to
maximum speed and enhances operator control of
the saw.
The decompression valve releases the compres-
sion in the combustion chamber during starts and
thus reduces the effort required to pull the starter
rope. This helps minimize physical effort during
starts and greatly improves operator comfort.
