Replacing a broken starter rope
: Remove the screws (1).
: Ease fan housing away from
crankcase and remove it.
Machines with standard starter
Machines with Easy2Start
: Use screwdriver or suitable pliers to
carefully remove spring clip (2) from
the starter post.
: Carefully remove the rope rotor with
washer (3) and pawl (4).
The rewind spring may pop out and
uncoil during this operation – take
care to avoid injury.
Replacing the starter rope
Machines without ElastoStart
and machines with Easy2Start
: Use a screwdriver to pry the rope
out of the starter grip.
: Remove the remaining rope from
the rotor and grip.
: Thread the new rope through the
starter grip and tie one of the special
knots shown.
: Pull the knot back into the grip.
