The Stratco RDO30 is a garage door opener designed for roller garage doors, providing automated operation and enhanced safety features. It comes with an installation and user guide to facilitate proper setup and usage.
Function Description
The primary function of the RDO30 is to automate the opening and closing of roller garage doors. It operates via a remote control system, allowing users to open, stop, or close the roller shutter with a simple press of a button. The motor also features an O/S/D button for direct control. The opener incorporates an electronic travel limit switch, which ensures precise and reliable door movement by defining the upper and lower limits of its travel.
A key safety feature is the Intelligent Safety Obstruction System (ISS). During a closing cycle, if the door encounters an obstacle or experiences any restriction, it will automatically reverse to prevent injury or damage. Similarly, if the door is restricted while opening, it will stop. This system is crucial for protecting people, pets, and property.
The RDO30 also offers an auto-close mode, which automatically closes the door after a set period (defaulting to 1 minute after being fully opened). For safety, it is compulsory to install a photo electric beam when using the auto-close mode, as this sensor detects obstructions in the doorway before the door closes. The auto-close time is adjustable to suit user preferences.
In the event of a power outage or malfunction, the device includes a simple and reliable clutch mechanism. By pulling down a manual release lever, the door can be manually operated. Pushing the lever back up returns the door to auto mode. The opener also has a terminal for an optional backup battery, ensuring continued operation during power failures, especially if the garage door is the only entrance.
Usage Features
The RDO30 is designed for ease of use. The remote control system utilizes rolling code technology, which enhances security by minimizing the chance of coincident codes and unauthorized access. The opener can store up to 20 different transmitters in its memory, accommodating multiple users or remote controls.
An energy-efficient LED light is integrated into the unit. This light automatically turns on during operation and switches off approximately 3 minutes after the door finishes moving, providing illumination when needed.
Installation involves several steps, starting with checking the door's balance and operation. The opener can be fixed to the roll-up garage door in various ways, with specific instructions provided for right-hand installations. Side room requirements are outlined to ensure proper fit and access.
Setting up the opener involves configuring the left/right installation, if applicable, and then setting the door travel limits. This process includes manually opening the door to its upper stop, closing it to the ground, and then using the 'UP' and 'DOWN' buttons on the programming panel to fine-tune the limit positions. The opener then performs an automatic cycle to remember these limits and calibrate the opening and closing force.
Coding transmitters is straightforward: the operator is put into remote learning mode, and a button on the remote is pressed twice to code it. Multiple remotes can be coded using the same method. There's also a function to delete all stored remotes if needed.
The safety reverse force is adjustable, allowing users to increase or decrease the force required for the door to reverse upon obstruction. This setting can be fine-tuned from 1 to 9, with a default of 3.
For enhanced safety, optional photocells can be connected. These sensors create a beam across the doorway, and if the beam is broken during closing, the door will reverse. The manual provides instructions for connecting and activating the photocell function, as well as canceling it if not in use. It is crucial to close the photocell function when not utilizing the sensor to avoid operational issues.
The auto-close setting can be adjusted to a desired time from 1 to 9 minutes, or turned off completely. This feature is only available when the door is in its full open position, and as mentioned, requires a photo electric beam for safe operation.
Maintenance Features
The manual emphasizes the importance of regular checks and maintenance to ensure safe and correct operation. Users are advised to frequently examine the installation, including cables, springs, and mountings, for signs of wear, damage, or imbalance. If any repair or adjustment is needed, the door should not be used, and a qualified garage door installer should be contacted, as hardware is under extreme tension. Users are explicitly warned against attempting repairs themselves.
The safety obstruction force should be checked regularly by placing a 50mm high object on the floor and testing if the door reverses as instructed. Necessary adjustments should be made as required.
For installations where the roll-up door is the only entrance, a backup battery must be installed and checked weekly to ensure continuous functionality.
The unit should be protected from the elements, not exposed to water or rain, or immersed in water.
In case of any malfunction, the user is instructed to call an authorized installer and not attempt to repair the device independently. All services, repairs, or checks should be carried out by professionally qualified persons and recorded in a maintenance register. The installer is also responsible for informing the owner about the correct operation of the opener, including the manual disengagement cord, and the need for regular maintenance and safety checks.
