LUBRICATION
Periodic Inspections
It is well for reaso ns of eco no my an d to f or est all un-
expected need
of ser vice to ha ve your car inspected once
a
month or at 100 0 mile (1609 km.) lubri cation periods.
An ideal time to have m any of the par ts or units inspected
is while
th e car is on th e lub rication hoist in the raised
posi ti on.
Lubrication and Related Operations
Pr oper lu bri cation is good as surance that your c ar
will continue to pe rform w it h in creasing saLigiaction. Only
h
igh quality lubricants should be us ed on your car.
Your Studeba ker dealer kn ows eve ry lubrica tion
require ment f or your car. T ak e it to him for peri odic
lubri c at ion. The recom mendat io ns given in the followi ng
paragraphs are, in m an y way s, the most important in the
ent ire booklet. If a lub ricat ion service must, of necessity,
be
perfor med by a non -St u debaker se rviceman, be sure he
understands the requirements m ention ed in this section
and on the chart on pages 24 and 25.

press ure ( hand ) gu n should be use d to lubrica te these
bea ring s.
TRANSMISSION LUBRICANT T he transmission s houl d
be filled to
the level of the filler plug hole with S.A.E. 90
mine ral oil gear lu brica nt or S.A. E. 40 engine oil, bot h
summer a nd wi nter. On cars equ ipp ed w it h overdrive trans-
mission the main case and th e ove rd ri ve case should be
filled separa
te ly. For transm ission capacities see table on
page 47.
REAR AXLE LUBRICANT Us e Studebaker hypoid lubri -
ca nt or a ny S.A. E. 90 hypoid lubricant (multi-purpose type
gea r lub rica n t) f or su mmer and winter . Do not mix various
