Overview

This manual describes the Suburban Recreational Vehicle Drop-in Cooktops, specifically models SD2 and SD3. These cooktops are designed for installation in recreational vehicles and operate exclusively on LP/Propane gas.

Function Description

The Suburban Drop-in Cooktops provide a cooking surface with two or three burners (depending on the model) for use in recreational vehicles. They are designed to be integrated into a countertop, offering a compact and efficient cooking solution. The primary function is to allow users to cook food using LP/Propane gas.

    • Pressure for regulator setting check: at least 1" W.C. above suggested manifold pressure.
  • Clearances from Combustible Walls (above and below counter):
    • Below Counter (Sides, Rear, and Bottom): 0" for both SD2 and SD3.

    • Minimum acceptable spacing between adjacent SD2 models: 3 inches.
  • Certification: Certified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for the U.S.A. and Canada.

Usage Features

  • Ignition: To light a burner, depress the corresponding knob and turn it fully counter-clockwise to the "Lite" position. A long match should be held near the burner ports for immediate ignition. Hand-held ignitors designed for open flame burners may also be used.
  • Flame Control: Burner knobs allow manual control of gas flow to the burners. Users should ensure the correct burner knob is turned on for the desired burner.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Never check for gas leaks with an open flame; use a soap and water solution.
    • Do not operate a top burner without a pan in place.
    • Avoid operating high-input burners on high for extended periods to prevent damage.
    • Do not use cookware that extends beyond one inch of the grate or rests over two operating top burners, as this can cause excessive heat build-up and damage.
    • Always turn pan handles inward or toward the back of the cooktop to prevent accidental bumping or reaching by children.
    • Never leave top burners unattended.
    • In case of a gas smell, immediately extinguish all open flames, evacuate the vehicle, shut off the gas supply at the container, and contact the gas supplier or fire department. Do not attempt to light any appliance or use electrical switches.
    • Ensure proper ventilation and separation from other forced-air appliances to prevent negative or positive air pressure affecting burner flames.
  • Burner Extinguishment: If a burner extinguishes after initial lighting or due to accidental blow-out, turn the control knob clockwise to "OFF" and wait five minutes before attempting to relight. If a burner goes out during cooking or a gas odor is detected, turn all control knobs to "OFF" and wait five minutes for the odor to dissipate before relighting.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • Ensure all controls are "OFF" and the cooktop is cool before cleaning.
    • Use warm soapy water for burner grates, cooktops, painted surfaces, porcelain surfaces, stainless steel surfaces, and plastic items.
    • Do not use oven cleaners, bleach, rust removers, steel wool, abrasive cleaners, or grit/acid-type cleaners. Use non-abrasive plastic scrubbing pads.
    • Clean up boil-overs and spills as soon as possible to prevent pitting, discoloration, and permanent staining, especially on stainless steel and burner caps.
    • Do not allow foods containing acids (lemon, tomato juice, vinegar) to remain on porcelain or painted surfaces, as acids may remove the glossy finish.
    • Allow warm porcelain surfaces to cool before cleaning to prevent cracking.
  • Burner Port/Orifice Cleaning: If burner ports or the orifice are clogged, carefully clean them with a small wire or needle, ensuring not to enlarge the ports. Do not use wire brushes or any brush that may "shed" bristles, as lodged bristles can cause fire or explosion.
  • Removal of Components for Cleaning/Service:
    • Stove Top: Remove two thumb screws from the sides of the stove top, then lift the stove top clear of the burner box.
    • Grates: Remove the stove top. From the underside of the top, remove the clips from the grates by squeezing their ends to release tension.
  • General Maintenance: Regular maintenance as outlined in the manual, including cleaning of component parts and checking/replacement of the burner orifice, is essential for safe and proper operation.

The manual emphasizes that installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency, or the gas supplier. Owners are instructed to retain the manual for future reference and to contact Suburban Manufacturing Company for any technical or warranty questions.
