How to troubleshoot a Sunfire SF120 Electric Heater that will not start?
    • J
      Jose ChoiJul 29, 2025
If your Sunfire Electric Heater doesn't start, first check the main electrical power circuit breaker or fuse. If it's tripped or blown (and the AMBER light is off), reset the breaker or replace the fuse. If power is present but the AMBER light is still off, replace the bulb. Also, check if the primary control safety has tripped (RED light illuminated) or if the primary control is defective; in this case, reset or test the components, replacing them if necessary. Ensure the thermostat jumper is securely connected or, if using a thermostatic control, ensure it is properly connected and set to call for heat. Finally, check the tip switch to be sure that the Sunfire unit is level, and if it is level, the tip switch may be defective.

What to do if Sunfire Electric Heater attempts to fire but does not establish a flame?

      Tyler McdanielAug 5, 2025
If your Sunfire Electric Heater attempts to fire but doesn't establish a flame, the following could be the reason: * The unit may not be primed: Use the PRIME switch to fill the fuel system. * There may be a clogged nozzle: Replace the nozzle. * The fuel filter may be dirty: Change the fuel filter. * There may be an air bubble in the fuel line: Use the PRIME switch to clear the fuel system of air. * There may be a suction leak: Tighten all fuel-pickup pipe fittings and make sure the fuel filter is tightened snugly to the filter head. * The ignition system may be defective: Replace the defective component.

Why does my Sunfire Electric Heater fire and then persistently fails after 30 seconds?
    • T
      Trevor JohnsonAug 10, 2025
If your Sunfire Electric Heater fires and then persistently fails after 30 seconds, it could be due to a dirty fuel filter, which requires changing the fuel filter. Alternatively, the nozzle may be clogged, requiring replacement. Another potential cause is a contaminated fuel supply, which can be resolved by draining the tank from the plug, cleaning it, and refilling with clean fuel. Finally, there might be an improper power supply; check the power supply and if using a generator, run it for 20 minutes and retry. If using an inverter, try a clean power supply or a different power supply.

If your Sunfire Electric Heater fires and then persistently fails within 30 seconds, the flame sensor may be dirty or defective. Clean the flame sensor with a soft, damp cloth. If the problem persists, replace the flame sensor.
