To check the gear oil:
1. Make sure the motor is in an upright posi-
tion.
2. Remove the gear oil level plug 1 and plug
for gear oil level adjustment hole 2.
3. Inject the specified gear oil into the gear oil
level adjustment hole and make sure that the
oil comes out of the gear oil level hole.
NOTE:
When removing the gear oil level plug, the
design of the gearcase allows a residual
amount of gear oil to stay in the oil level plug
area.
This means that if you remove the gear oil level
plug, some amount of oil may come out even if
the total amount of oil in the gearcase is less
than the specified amount.
When checking the gear oil level, always be
sure to inject the oil into the gear oil level adjust-
ment hole and check that the oil comes out of
the gear oil level hole.
4. Reinstall and tighten the two plugs.
To change the gear oil:
1. Center the steering, operate the Power Trim
and Tilt “UP” switch until the motor is in full
trim position.
2. Remove the PORT/STBD water filters 3.
3. Place a drain pan under the lower casing.
4. Remove the gear oil drain plug 4, then
remove the gear oil level plug 1.
