Do you have a question about the Swegon GOLD RX 004 and is the answer not in the manual?
The Swegon GOLD RX Generation F is an air handling unit designed for comfort ventilation applications in various building types such as offices, schools, day nurseries, public buildings, shops, and residential buildings. It is available in 9 physical sizes and 18 airflow ranges.
The GOLD RX unit integrates a microprocessor-based IQlogic control system that manages and regulates fans, heat exchangers, temperatures, airflows, operation times, and a wide array of internal and external functions, including alarms. The unit is designed to be installed indoors, but an optional TBTA/TBTB accessory allows for outdoor installation, in which case duct accessories must be housed in an insulated casing (type TCxx). It operates within a temperature range of -40°C to +40°C for both surroundings and air stream, with a maximum temperature difference between outdoor and extract air of 70°C. The fans are approved for continuous operation up to 40°C and can manage operation for one hour at 70°C.
The unit features an outer sheet steel skin painted in Swegon's grey metallic colour (closest to RAL 9007), with black handles, decor strips, and connection hoods. Internal materials include aluminium-zinc plated sheet steel and Magnelis, achieving an Environmental Class C4 rating. The panels have a thickness of 52 mm with mineral wool insulation. GOLD RX Top sizes 004-012 are equipped with pleated filters (ePM10 60% (M5) or ePM1 50% (F7)). Other sizes and variants utilize supply and extract air filters made of glass fibre, in filter class ePM10 60% (M5) or ePM1 50% (F7). The RECOnomic rotary heat exchanger is variable speed controlled. Supply and extract air fans are of the GOLD Wing+ type, which are axi-centrifugal fans with backward-curved blades, direct-driven, and feature a motor control system for variable speed control.
The electrical connection for sizes 014-120 is 3-phase, 5-wire, 400 V -10/+15%, 50 Hz. Fuse protection varies depending on the fan size and capacity variant, ranging from 10 A to 125 A. For sizes 004-012, power supply options include 1-phase, 3-wire, 230 V -10/+15%, 50 Hz (10 AT or 16 AT) or 3-phase, 5-wire, 400 V -10/+15%, 50 Hz (10 AT). The electrical equipment cubicle includes a safety isolating switch (20 A for both capacity variants 1 and 2 of GOLD RX 004-012). Control current (230 V) is protected by a 2-pole MCB 1 A for the power supply control card and a 2-pole MCB 6 A for other controls. Fans in GOLD 004-007, GOLD 008 capacity variant 1, and GOLD 011 capacity variant 1 use two 2-pole miniature circuit breakers (10A). GOLD 008 capacity variant 2, GOLD 011 capacity variant 2, and GOLD 012 use two 3-pole miniature circuit breakers (10A). The unit conforms to IEC 61000-3-12 for EMC, provided the short-circuit power Ssc is greater than or equal to the specified values for each size/capacity variant (e.g., 0.9 MVA for 008-2, up to 16.8 MVA for 120-2).
Commissioning involves several steps: checking for foreign objects, ensuring the rotary heat exchanger rotor rotates easily (with specific inclination for sizes 050-120), turning on the safety isolating switch, selecting the language, and programming operating modes, temperatures, and airflows. The duct system and air diffusers are adjusted using a proportionality method to minimize pressure drop and ensure comfort. Pressure balance within the unit is checked and adjusted by blanking off holes in commissioning plates located in the extract air inlet.
Maintenance includes regular filter changes. Glass fibre filters should be replaced, and woven aluminium pre-filters (if fitted) should be washed when the filter alarm activates. Filters are easily dismantled by pulling out handles (A) from the filter holder. New filters are installed by inserting them into the holder, ensuring filter bags are not caught, and pressing them tightly against the frames before clamping them with handles (A). Cleaning and inspection of the air handling unit interior should be performed at least twice a year, ideally during filter changes. Heat exchangers should be vacuum cleaned with a soft nozzle to prevent damage to the rotor, and can be blown clean with compressed air if heavily fouled. If necessary, the heat exchanger can be withdrawn and washed with degreasing solvent by Swegon-trained personnel. Vinyl-coated fabric seals should be inspected, cleaned, and replaced if worn. Drive belts should be replaced if loose or worn. Fan impellers should be inspected and cleaned to remove dirt deposits, checking for balance and bearing noise. Fan motors can be vacuum cleaned or wiped with a damp cloth and detergent. Service and functionality checks are recommended at 6-month and 12-month intervals, covering filters, fans, heat exchangers, duct accessories, internal/external surfaces, gaskets, sealing strips, bearings, drive belts, sensors, cabling, measuring tubes, safety functions (fire and frost protection), and other control functions. Alarms are displayed by a flashing red LED on the hand-held terminal and can be viewed and reset via the Alarm log. Alarms are categorized as A or B alarms, indicating different priorities and outputting to alarm relays.
The GOLD RX unit offers connectivity to the Swegon INSIDE Cloud, allowing for data exchange about actions and parameter settings. This functionality is disabled by default and requires customer consent to the general terms and conditions for Digital Service, DS-23. Connection can be established via the building's internet access point or a supplied modem, requiring firewall configuration if using the local network. Data is sent in intervals and aggregated. Swegon uses this data for performance, functionality, and product development. A secure internet connection and a valid certificate for each product are required for cloud connectivity.
