The Symetrix RC-1 MIDI Remote Control
We offer the Symetrix RC-1 as an accessory remote control for the 628 Digital Voice Processor.
The RC-1 provides limited control; it allows the user to select and load the first eleven user
programmed processing presets of the 628. The RC-1 also makes provision for selection of a
BYPASS function, which is Program 0 on the 628. The RC-1 may be used with other MIDI
controlled equipment to select Programs 0 thru 11.
Caution: The Symetrix RC-1 includes a jack for an optional 9 VDC power supply (not sup
plied). If you use the RC-1 with the 628, the RC-1 takes its power from the 628. No
external power supply is required when using the RC-1 with the 628. The optional 9
VDC connection allows you to use the RC-1 with other MIDI controlled devices.
The RC-1 does not provide selection or change of any individual processing parameters. It selects
and loads presets #0 through #11 only. Changes to the 628s processing presets must be made at
the processors front panel. There is no button lockout or other security feature provided on the
RC-1. If you accidentally hit one of the buttons, you will accidentally change the processing preset
on the 628.
The RC-1 connects to the Symetrix 628 with a 25-foot, 7-pin DIN cable. We provide this cable
with the RC-1. The 628 and RC-1 exchange MIDI information on pins #2 and #3. The 628
provides power for the RC-1 on pins #1 and #7. Pin #7 carries +5 VDC; pin #1 is ground. To
preserve compatibility with other MIDI devices, the remaining pins on the connector are not used.
If the RC-1 is used with other MIDI controlled equipment, a standard 5-pin MIDI cable may be
used. A 5-pin MIDI cable plug will connect directly into the female 7-pin DIN socket on the RC-
1. When the RC-1 is used with any device other than the Symetrix 628, power must be provided
by the user with a 9 VDC supply plugged into the power jack on the rear of the RC-1 Remote
Control. We ship the RC-1 configured to identify itself as MIDI Channel #1.
What’s my name?
You may change the MIDI channel identification of the RC-1 by the use of four solder jumpers on
the bottom of the RC-1 circuit board. The table on the following page identifies the jumpers which
must be bridged with solder to identify the RC-1 for each possible MIDI channel. The X
indicates a jumper requiring solder closure. Do not solder across the jumpers marked 0. Please
note that J4 is on the left and J1 is on the right (just as in the table).
