Overview

This document is a user and installer handbook for Tapworks Water Softeners, specifically models NSC9PRO, NSC11PRO, and NSC14PRO, which come with an EasyFit all-in-one kit. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, programming, operation, and maintenance, along with warranty information and troubleshooting tips.

Function Description:

Tapworks Water Softeners are designed to remove hard minerals from water, providing softened water for household use. The softening process occurs as water passes through resin beads within the softener, which extract the hard minerals. The unit then uses tablet or pellet salt to clean and regenerate these resin beads, ensuring a continuous supply of soft water. The system operates automatically, requiring only regular salt replenishment.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Maximum Water Temperature: 49°C
  • Maximum Daytime Working Pressure: 5 Bar
  • Minimum Working Pressure: 1.3 Bar
  • Minimum System Flow: 0.06 m³/hr
  • Maximum System Flow: 3.18 m³/hr
  • Electrical Supply: 240 volt 50 Hz, supplied via a 24 volt 50 Hz transformer (must be the one provided with the softener). The transformer should be plugged into an indoor electrical outlet.
  • Hose Length: Inlet/outlet push-fit hoses are 500mm long with 22mm connections.
  • Drain Run: With a pressure of 3 bar, the maximum drain run is 3m with a constant fall before entering an air gap. The maximum height above the softener should not exceed 2m.
  • Salt Type: Only tablet or pellet salt should be used. Granular or block salt is explicitly not recommended.
  • Salt Level for Efficiency: Approximately 12cm of salt must be maintained as a minimum for operating efficiency.

Usage Features:

  • Automatic Operation: Once installed and programmed, the softener operates automatically, regenerating as needed based on water usage.
  • Salt Monitor System: The unit includes a salt monitor indicator light to remind users when to add salt to the storage tank. The salt level can be set on the electronic faceplate to match the physical salt level in the brinewell.
  • Programmable Recharge Time: The default recharge start time is 2:00 AM, but users can adjust this in 1-hour increments using the UP or DOWN buttons.
  • Manual Recharge (Regeneration): Users can initiate an immediate recharge by holding the RECHARGE button for 3 seconds, or set it to recharge overnight by pressing and releasing the RECHARGE button. This is useful after periods of high water usage or if salt has been replenished after running out.
  • Bypass Valve: An all-in-one bypass with a check valve allows users to switch between softened water (SOFT position) and hard water (HARD position). This is useful for maintenance, holidays, or when softened water is not desired. The handle turns 180° to switch between modes.
  • Hard Water Tap Recommendation: For exceptionally hard water areas (above 400 mg/l) or for individuals on a low sodium diet/babies on formula feed, fitting a separate hard water drinking tap is recommended.
  • Softened Water Benefits: The handbook highlights benefits such as using less soap powder in washing machines, no longer needing dishwasher salt, and easier cleaning of sinks, baths, and basins.
  • Power Cut Resilience: The softener's memory retains correct time settings for up to 48 hours during a power cut. If the power is off for longer, only the time needs to be re-set; hardness and recharge settings are stored.

Maintenance Features:

  • Salt Replenishment: Regular topping up of the salt cabinet with tablet or pellet salt is the primary maintenance task. The salt monitor system helps remind users when to do this. Salt should not be filled above the brinewell cover.
  • Cleaning: The unit can be cleaned with a damp cloth and detergent. Bleaches, solvents, or spirits should not be used.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive problem-solving section provides checklists and solutions for common issues such as excessive salt usage, high water level in the cabinet, water running down the overflow or drain line, and electronic faceplate errors.
  • Warranty: Tapworks Water Softeners come with a 12-month parts and labour warranty against manufacturing defects, extendable to 2 years upon registration. The warranty requires proper installation, use, and maintenance according to instructions, and specifies conditions that void the warranty (e.g., improper salt, external damage, unapproved servicing).
  • Technical Support: A helpline number (01494 480 621) is provided for technical support and queries during normal working hours.
  • Warranty Registration: Users are encouraged to register their warranty online or by mail to receive the extended 2-year warranty and ensure efficient support.
