Overview

The K124MA is a control panel designed for a single 24V motor with an encoder, intended for the automation of gates and doors. It is manufactured by TAU S.r.l. in Sandrigo (VI), Italy. This device is classified as "machine construction" under European Directive 2006/42/CE (Machinery Directive), meaning its installation and maintenance must be carried out by qualified and experienced personnel.

Function Description

The K124MA control panel offers several functionalities for gate automation:

  • Motor Control: It manages the operation of a 24V DC electromechanical gear motor.
  • Encoder Sensor: Features an encoder sensor for self-learning of the gate's travel, ensuring precise and adaptable operation.
  • Radio Receiver: Includes a built-in 433.92 MHz 3-channel radio receiver, capable of learning up to 30 rolling code transmitters (S-2RP, S-4RP, K-SLIM-RP, T-4RP).
    • Channel 1 (CH1): Controls the OPEN/CLOSE function of the automation.
    • Channel 2 (CH2): Controls a relay for a N.O. no-voltage output contact (terminals 19-20, max. 24V AC, 1A), suitable for controlling additional automations or lights.
    • Channel 3 (CH1+CH2): Controls the pedestrian opening function.
  • Input Status Display: LEDs indicate the status of various inputs, aiding in diagnostics.
  • Integrated Flashing Circuit: Provides a flashing light output (24V DC, max. 20W) for signaling gate movement, flashing rapidly during closing and slowly during opening.
  • Obstacle Detection: The system detects obstacles (sensitivity adjustable via the FR trimmer). If an obstacle is detected during opening, the gate closes approximately 20 cm. If detected during closing, the gate fully reopens.
  • Deceleration Points: Allows for the setting of deceleration points during both opening and closing strokes, adjustable via the RALL trimmer.
  • Automatic Closing: Can be configured for automatic closing after a set time (adjustable via the T.C.A. trimmer) once the gate is fully open.
  • Pre-flashing Function: An optional feature that enables a pre-flashing signal before the gate starts moving.
  • Photocell Test (Fototest): A safety function that verifies the operation of connected photocells. This function can be disabled via dip-switch 6 if photocells are not used.
  • Master/Slave Configuration: Supports master/slave operation for controlling two motors, configurable via dip-switch 7.
  • Limit Switches: Optional inputs for limit switches (LFCA for opening, LFCC for closing) to define the gate's travel limits.
  • Safety Edge Input: Supports both resistive (8.2 KΩ) and N.C. contact safety edges (configurable via dip-switch 12). Intervention of a safety edge causes a temporary stop and partial reversal (20 cm) of the gate's movement to free the obstacle.
  • Courtesy Light Output: Provides a 24V DC, max. 15W output for a courtesy light, which activates with a command pulse and remains on for a configurable time (default 20 seconds via TauApp).
  • Gate Open Light Output: Provides a 24V DC, max. 3W output for a gate open indicator light. It flashes slowly during opening, stays on when the gate is open, and flashes at double speed during closing.
  • Energy Saving Mode: Selectable via jumper J6, this mode switches off the control unit and auxiliary devices (outputs 11-12, 12-13, 14-15, 16-17, 16-18) at the end of each maneuver to reduce power consumption. In this mode, DL1 and DL2 LEDs flash every 4 seconds.
  • Compatibility with TAU Apps: Designed to work with TauApp and TauOpen applications via T-WIFI and T-CONNECT devices connected to input J4.

  • Motor Power Supply Voltage: 24V DC.
  • Auxiliary Device Supply Voltage: 24V DC.
  • Logic Circuits Supply Voltages: 5V DC.
  • Operating Temperature: -20 °C to +55 °C.
  • Radio Receiver Frequency: 433.92 MHz.
  • Radio Code Memory: Standard 30 codes, expandable up to 126, 254, or 1022 codes with optional memory cards (Art. 250SM126, 250SM254, 250SM1022).

Usage Features

  • Installation: Requires qualified technical personnel. Disconnect mains power before accessing the board. Ensure mechanical components work correctly and the gate slides freely on a horizontal plane. Verify the gear motor's power consumption is adequate (not exceeding 3A).
  • Wiring: Avoid using single-wire cables (e.g., intercom cables) to prevent line interruptions and false contacts. Do not reuse old cables. For long cable runs (> 20m) for N.O./N.C. controls (e.g., OPEN/CLOSE, STOP, PEDESTRIAN), use relays or the 750T-RELE device to prevent malfunctions.
  • Stroke Memorization:
    • Without Limit Switches: Start with the gate approximately 0.5m from the mechanical opening stop. Press and hold PROG for about 6 seconds until DL2 flashes orange. The automation will slowly open, then close. Press PROG briefly at desired deceleration points during opening and closing.
    • With Limit Switches: Start with the gate approximately 0.5m from the opening limit switch. Ensure dip-switch 8 is correctly set for right or left opening. Press and hold PROG for about 6 seconds until DL2 flashes orange. The automation will slowly open, then close. Press PROG briefly at desired deceleration points.
    • Important: Perform the first stroke memorization with the RALL trimmer fully turned counterclockwise (minimum deceleration speed). Obstacles during memorization are interpreted as mechanical limit stops, not safety operations.
  • Adjustments: Any changes to trimmers (RALL, FR, T.C.A.) or dip-switches require a complete open/close maneuver to take effect.
  • Remote Control Programming: Transmitters can be programmed directly via CH1, CH2, or CH1+CH2 buttons. Remote programming is also possible with T-4RP / K-SLIM-RP / S-2RP / S-4RP (V 4.X) transmitters if an existing programmed transmitter is available.
  • Code Cancellation: Individual channels (CH1, CH2, CH3) can be cleared by holding the respective button for 3 seconds. A total factory reset of radio memory is also possible.
  • Timer Control: The gate can be controlled by a digital timer connected to terminals 4-6 (OPEN/CLOSE), provided automatic closing (dip-switch 1 ON) is enabled.

Maintenance Features

  • Diagnostics (LEDs):
    • DL1 (Battery/Power): Indicates battery presence, mains voltage (steady green), or absence of mains voltage (1 flash every 4 seconds, green), suggesting battery/photovoltaic power. Also signals factory reset in progress (green + red flashing) or total radio channel cancellation pending (green + orange flashing).
    • DL2 (Logic Errors/Status): Signals various warnings and errors with specific flash patterns (e.g., orange for regular operation, red/green alternating for saving, fast green/orange alternating for deceleration variation memorization). It also indicates radio control programming status (e.g., green steady for CH1 programming, orange steady for CH2 programming, red steady for CH3 programming, 5 quick flashes for memory full).
    • DL3-DL8 (Input Status): Red for PEDESTRIAN, OPEN/CLOSE; Green for STOP, INTERNAL PHOTOCELLS, EXTERNAL PHOTOCELLS, SENSITIVE EDGE.
    • E1 (Encoder): Flashes red during gate movement, with variable speed indicating motor speed.
    • LFCA/LFCC (Optional Limit Switches): Turn off when the respective limit switch is reached.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues like automation not starting, poor radio control range, or incorrect gate opening direction, with suggested causes and remedies (e.g., checking power supply, fuses, NC contacts, dip-switch settings, motor polarity, antenna connections, and trimmer adjustments).
  • Reset Procedures:
    • Radio Memory Reset: Hold CH1 and PROG until DL1 and DL2 flash yellow, then release and press again until LEDs turn off.
    • Hard Reset (Factory Settings): Hold CH2 and PROG until DL1 and DL2 flash red, then release and press again until LEDs turn off. Note: Hard Reset does not erase radio memory.
  • Warranty: TAU offers a 24-month warranty from the purchase date, covering manufacturing defects.
