Cautions to be taken when handling battery
Gases produced by the battery can be explosive. Do
not smoke. Do not use open flame for inspection.
e No fire. Do not smoke. Keep sparks or open flame away
from the battery.
* Keep proper electrolyte level. If the level is too low
(below LOWER LIMIT), the battery will build up heat,
leading to an explosion.
* Have a good ventilation. Do not use or store batteries
in a closed place or an area where ventilation is poor.
* Avoid electric shock accident. Wear rubber gloves
when servicing and inspecting the battery.
е Avoid static electricity. Do not clean the battery case
with a duster or dry cloth.
e Avoid sulfuric acid. The electrolyte is sulfuric acid and
thus it might cause burns or blindness if it comes in
contact with the skin, eye, or clothing.
• If electrolyte comes in contact with your skin or
clothing, wash it away using a copious amount of
water immediately.
• If electrolyte gets into your eyes, wash your eyes with
a copious amount of water immediately and get
medical attention.

Cautions to be taken when charging batteries
e In order to prevent an electric shock accident, be sure to
ground the facility power source securely.
e In order to prevent an electric shock accident, do not
put your hand or anything inside the equipment;
otherwise it will lead an accident if the power switch is
ON or the battery receptacles are connected.
е Charge in areas well ventilated and not exposed to rain
water. Keep flammable materials away from the area.
е It is recommended that the floor be covered with an acid-
resistant material and be well drained, since there is a
fear of acidic electrolyte spilling on the floor during
charge.
e Never smoke or use fire in the charging area especially
at the termination of charging since explosive hydric gas
is released from the battery while being charged.
е The hood should be kept open while charging.
• Do not disconnect the battery connectors while charging;
otherwise sparks may be fired, leading to a fatal accident.
e Switch over the input voltage switching taps according
to the input voltage. Consult the battery manual for its
operation. If the input voltage does not agree with the
setting of the tap, a burned transformer or a short circuit
due to deteriorated insulation might occur.
е Keep the key switch turned OFF while charging, for
safety's sake.
* Use fuses and non-fuse circuit breaker with the specified
capacity. Do not use the power supply together with
other kinds of equipment. Failure to do so will cause a
damaged battery or charger.
