SFC
(Sound
Field
Control)
Dolby Pro Logic is a
decoding
system that was
developed to
get
a better sense of
presence
from
sources encoded
with Dolby Surround.
The
feeling of position has
been
improved by the
addition of
a
separate center
speaker
channel.
Dolby
Surround
was developed to
allow
enjoyment
of
Dolby Stereo, a
cinema system,
in
private homes.
This
system
reproduces
sound
close to that
of the
original movie through use
of
an
analog matrix.
This unit has two types
of
Dolby Pro Logic.
•
SURROUND: the
surround
speakers are
used.
•

STEREO: the
surround
speakers are not
used.

SFC allows
you
to
add surround-like effects to
sources not formatted
with Dolby Surround,
Dolby
Digital,
or DTS.
Various effects,
like a concert hall or jazz club,
can
be
achieved
by introducing
width or
reverberation to the original sound.

DTS
Dolby Digital is a discrete 6
(5,1)
channel digital
surround system developed
for cinema
use.
The sound signals
in
Dolby
Digital format are
compressed to
1/10 their original size, allowing an
entire
movie
to
be recorded on a single DVD.
Not all Dolby Digital sources are recorded with 6
channels. Some sources marked
Dolby
Digital
may be recorded in Dolby
Surround,
a
2
channel
system.

DTS
is
a
discrete
6
(5.1)
channel digital surround
system developed
for
cinema
use.
Sources
encoded
in DTS are
only compressed to a
quarter
of
the size of the original to preserve sound
quality.
DTS sources
are produced
with the intention that
all
speaker
channels will be used.
