Overview

This document is a user guide for the Tesco DFPSS19 Deep Fryer.

Function Description:

The Tesco DFPSS19 Deep Fryer is designed for household use to deep-fry a variety of food items. It allows users to cook meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit by immersing them in hot oil. The fryer features a temperature control to set the desired heat for cooking and an indicator light to show when the oil has reached the working temperature. A safety cutout prevents the unit from operating if the control unit is not correctly fitted, and a reset switch protects against overheating if the fryer is inadvertently switched on without oil. The deep fryer is designed for convenience with a removable basket for easy food handling and a lid to cover the oil pan.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: DFPSS19
  • Power Supply: 220-240V~, 50Hz
  • Power Consumption: 1765-2100W
  • Capacity: 3.0L max.
  • Minimum Oil Amount: 2.5 litres
  • Maximum Oil Amount: 3.0 litres
  • Weight: 2.47kg
  • Earthing: This appliance must be earthed.

Usage Features:

  • Pre-heating: The fryer requires pre-heating before use. The temperature control should be set to the desired heat, and the Power/Temperature indicator will show red while heating and switch to green when the oil reaches the working temperature.
  • Temperature Control: A temperature control knob allows users to adjust the heat setting for different foods.
  • Power/Temperature Indicator: This indicator lights green when connected to power and turns red when heating, then green again when the desired temperature is reached. It switches between green and red to maintain oil temperature during use.
  • Basket with Handle: The fryer includes a basket with an attachable handle for safely lowering and raising food from the hot oil. The handle supports squeeze together and fit into basket loops, then pull backwards to lock.
  • Basket Hook: The basket can be hooked over the oil pan in a raised position to allow food to drain after cooking.
  • Lid: A lid is provided to cover the oil pan, which can also be used during cooking.
  • Safety Cutout: A safety mechanism prevents the fryer from operating unless the control unit is correctly fitted into the base, ensuring the element is properly seated in the oil pan.
  • Overheat Protection (Reset Switch): In case of overheating, such as when the fryer is switched on without oil, a safety switch will trip, turning off the power. This switch can be reset after the unit has cooled down.
  • Cooking Guidelines: The manual provides a table with suggested cooking times and temperatures for various food items like fresh chips, frozen chips, fish, whitebait, chicken portions, and more.
  • Food Preparation: Emphasizes drying food before frying to prevent foaming and spattering. Advises against overloading the basket to ensure crisp food and prevent excessive foaming.
  • Oil Management: Recommends replacing cooking oil regularly (after 6 to 8 uses, or more frequently for fish or heavily battered food) to avoid contaminants, lower smoking temperatures, and reduce splashing caused by moisture.
  • Placement Guidelines: The fryer should be placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials, direct sunlight, and overhead cupboards. Ample clearance around and above the appliance is necessary.

Maintenance Features:

  • Easy Disassembly for Cleaning: The lid, basket, control unit, and oil pan can be easily removed for cleaning.
  • Hand-Washable Components: The lid and basket can be hand-washed in a mild detergent solution.
  • Wipe-Clean Surfaces: The control unit, element, oil pan, and base can be cleaned with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution, then wiped dry.
  • Non-Immersible Components: The control unit, base, and oil pan should never be immersed in water or other cleaning solutions. The enamel oil pan should not be immersed in water or other cleaning solutions.
  • No Abrasive Cleaners: Users are instructed not to clean the deep fryer with scourers, abrasive pads, or chemicals.
  • Cooling Requirement: The deep fryer must be disconnected from mains power and allowed to cool completely before handling or cleaning any parts. The oil or fat will remain hot for some time (at least 3 hours) after use.
  • Oil Storage: After cleaning, strained oil can be stored in the oil pan for future use.
  • Power Cable Storage: The power cable can be loosely coiled and tucked into the back of the control unit for storage.
  • Storage Recommendations: Store the deep fryer in a safe, cool place, out of reach of children and pets.
  • No User Serviceable Parts: The deep fryer contains no user-serviceable parts; unauthorized dismantling or servicing will void the product warranty.
