Overview

The Texecom SmartCom and SmartCom 4G are communicators designed to integrate Premier Elite intruder alarm systems with Texecom's digital services, including the Texecom Connect App, Texecom Cloud, and Texecom Monitor. These devices facilitate secure and compliant primary alarm signalling to a preferred Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), ensuring timely response and management of an estate. They offer single or dual path connections to the alarm system, managed through a secure cloud-based architecture.

Function Description:

The SmartCom and SmartCom 4G act as a bridge between the Premier Elite alarm panel and Texecom's cloud services. They receive events from the panel and manage their transmission to the ARC, while also keeping the panel informed of any signalling problems and logging all events. The SmartCom is configured to poll the cloud service at a pre-defined frequency to ensure secure and dependable operation of the signalling service. In the event of a primary path failure, the secondary path (if available) takes over immediately. If both paths fail, an Alarm Transmission System (ATS) failure is reported to the ARC and the alarm panel. The Texecom Cloud regularly polls ARCs to ensure connectivity. For dual path solutions, connections via Radio (4G) are provided through a private APN with dual redundant VPN and server connections to Texecom Monitor.

  • Monitor Mode: Premier Elite systems must use Monitor mode for certified use.
  • Connection: Connects via COM1 and COM2 on the panel. Ethernet connections require a screened CAT 6 cable.
  • 4G Antenna: The 4G antenna lead must be less than 3 metres for radio-based alternative paths. The antenna should be mounted vertically at the point of strongest signal, typically the highest point in the building. The GPRS antenna lead should not be cut or extended for certified installations.
  • Installation Process: Simplified setup through the Texecom Cloud, including selecting an ARC, adding site details, choosing connection templates and contracts, and generating an App code for panel connection.
  • Remote Upgrades: SmartCom 4G is remotely upgradable over the air, reducing site visits. The control panel can also be upgraded remotely via the Texecom Cloud.
  • IP Addressing: By default, the SmartCom obtains its IP address via DHCP from the router. Static IP address configuration is also possible.
  • WiFi Connection: Supports 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n wireless technology. Requires access to the customer's network SSID and password, and DHCP must be enabled on the network.
  • LED Indications: Provides visual feedback on Cloud, WiFi, Ethernet, and Mobile Comms status. Cloud LED solid indicates connection to servers, flashing indicates configuration issues. LAN/WiFi/4G LEDs show local connection status. 4G module LEDs 2, 3, and 4 should be illuminated for correct operation.
  • Signalling Test Facility: Allows testing of communication paths to ensure correct signalling to the ARC, with sounders disabled during the test.
  • Panel Configuration (without Monitor mode): For Premier Elite V5 systems, specific programming of Com Port configuration and Alarm Reporting is required. All Zones and Areas must have text, users must have a username, and a secure UDL password must be programmed.
  • Texecom Connect App Integration: Requires specific panel programming for correct function, including ARC Pri No., Dialing Attempts, Protocol Options, and enabling Communicator and Dial all Numbers.
  • App Code Generation: An App code is generated for connecting the panel to the Texecom Cloud. This code is valid for 60 minutes and can be generated by the installer or the Master User.

Maintenance Features:

  • Availability Monitoring: Texecom Monitor continuously monitors the availability of the service, measuring transmission times and polling rates to ensure compliance with EN50136-1 Table 2. Downtime periods are recorded and alerts are generated for path failures.
  • Security: Employs TLS 1.2/RCS/AES 128-bit encryption for all paths, with machine-generated and randomised encryption keys handled by SSL certificates changed every 12 months. Signed messages with public and private keys detect unauthorised modification.
  • Preventative Maintenance (BS9263:2016):
    • Grade 1: One site visit per year, or one site visit every two years with one remote system check in intermediate years.
    • Grade 2 (non-ARC connected): One site visit per year.
    • Grade 2 (ARC connected): Two site visits per year, or one site visit plus one remote system check per year.
