Overview

This document is an installation, use, and maintenance manual for the Thermorossi PIDRA 14 pellet thermo-stove. It provides comprehensive information for users and skilled technicians to ensure safe and correct operation.

Function Description

The PIDRA 14 is a residential space heating appliance that uses wood pellets as fuel to heat water. It is designed to provide efficient heating and can be integrated into various hydraulic systems. The appliance features microprocessor-controlled functions for high reliability and optimal performance, allowing for automatic modulation of operating power based on target temperatures. It can also manage domestic hot water production and integrate with puffer tanks for stratification heating.

The appliance is fueled by pellets with a 6 mm diameter and 10-20 mm length, maximum moisture content of 8%, thermal value of 4000/4500 Kcal/kg, and density of 630-640 kg/m³. Pellets must be approved according to UNI EN 14961-2 A1 A2.

Usage Features

The PIDRA 14 offers several user-friendly features:

  • Control Panel: Managed by a microprocessor with a large display for easy read-outs and function access.
  • Operating Modes:
    • Manual Operating Cycle: Power remains constant at the set level, independent of system absorption. The circulating pump activates above 61°C. If 80°C is reached, the generator temporarily shuts off (STOP) and reactivates when the temperature drops to 58°C.
    • Automatic Cycle (AUTO): Optimizes fuel consumption by self-regulating combustion based on the target water temperature (65°C to 73°C).
  • Programming:
    • Date/Time Setting: Allows users to set the current day, hour, and minutes.
    • Chrono (ON/OFF Programming): Enables setting up to three ON/OFF cycles for each day of the week. This function is useful for preventing uncontrolled ON/OFF cycles in direct heating systems.
  • Temperature Control Functions (with optional sensors):
    • THERMOCONTROL (Puffer Control): Manages the operating temperature of a stratification puffer using two PT 100 sensors. The appliance automatically controls ON/OFF cycles based on set activation temperatures (S2 for startup, S1 for shut-off).
    • ACS SUMMER (Domestic Hot Water Boiler Control): Manages the operating temperature of a domestic hot water boiler using a PT 100 sensor. It prioritizes hot water production, ignoring heating system or puffer requests when active.
    • T.AMBIENT (Room Temperature Control): Controls room temperature using a PT 100 sensor, automatically managing ON/OFF cycles based on the desired room temperature with a 2°C hysteresis.
  • Safety Devices: Includes a closed expansion tank, a 3 bar safety valve, an automatic reset temperature limiting device, and a manual reset temperature limiting safety device.
  • Alarms: The appliance is programmed to communicate 7 alarms (e.g., "NO PELLET," "FAILED START," "SMOKE NO-OUT," "ALARM T. MAX.") to inform users of issues requiring corrective actions.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the PIDRA 14's longevity and efficient operation:

  • Daily Maintenance:
    • Thoroughly clean the burner and the area around the spark plug with a vacuum cleaner.
    • Move the tube scraper lever up and down vigorously 4-5 times.
  • Weekly Maintenance:
    • Open the firebox door and check that the Pelletpower® scraper area is sediment-free.
    • Check that the burner holes and heater lodging channel are sediment-free; vacuum and clean if necessary.
    • Remove any silica agglomerates.
    • Empty the ash from the ash pan (C1) and vacuum ash from the compartment (C2).
    • Lift the inspection cover and thoroughly vacuum the inspection compartment (C3).
  • Monthly Maintenance:
    • Inspect and clean the Tee-joint of the smoke exhaust pipe.
    • Vacuum the sawdust from the bottom of the pellet tank.
    • Check that the smoke exhaust pipe is free from ash deposits.
  • Every Two Months:
    • Vacuum the ash in the top smoke circuit compartment (Figure 7). This involves removing casings, the tank cover screw, and the sliding top, then undoing wing nuts and unscrewing the turbulator shaker knob to remove cover A.
  • At Least Twice a Year:
    • Clean the flue outlet, including any horizontal sections, to remove ash and soot deposits.
  • End of Winter Season (or as necessary):
    • Perform a thorough overall cleaning of the firebox and pans with brushes and vacuum cleaners.
  • General Recommendations:
    • All cleaning operations must be performed when the appliance is cold and disconnected from the electrical power socket.
    • Do not wet the appliance or touch electrical parts with wet hands.
    • Never vacuum hot ash.
    • Ensure the combustion chamber door is firmly closed and airtight after cleaning.
    • If the appliance is inactive for over a month, thoroughly clean and check the generator, smoke discharge tube, and flue outlet for obstructions.
    • Use only original spare parts supplied by the manufacturer.

The manual emphasizes the importance of professional installation and adherence to local, national, and European regulations to ensure safety and proper functioning. It also highlights that using non-compliant fuel or unauthorized modifications will void the warranty.
