Emergency Stopping
If an emergency requires you to stop along the highway,
follow these guidelines:
1. Pull o the road as far as possible.
2. Put the motorhome’s transmission in the PARK
position (neutral for diesel pushers) and apply the
PARKING BRAKE.
3. Turn ON the hazard warning ashers.
4. Use three red warning indicators such as ares, reec-
tors, or lanterns as required by the Uniform Vehicle
Code and Model Trac Ordinance as follows:
a. Place the rst warning indicator on the trac
side of the motorhome, directed toward trac
approaching the rear of the motorhome, approx-
imately 10 feet from the rear bumper.
b. Place the second warning indicator 100 feet
behind the motorhome, in the center of the lane
or shoulder occupied by the motorhome, and
directed toward trac approaching the rear of the
motorhome.
c. Place the third warning indicator 100 feet in front
of the motorhome, in the center of the lane or
shoulder occupied by the motorhome, and direct-
ed towards the trac approaching the front of the
motorhome.
d. If stopped within 500 feet of a curve, crest of a hill,
or other obstruction to view, place a warning indi-
cator in the direction of the obstruction (front and/
or back of the motorhome), at a distance of 100 feet
to 500 feet from the stopped motorhome so as to
aord ample warning to trac approaching the
motorhome.
5. Always stand o the road, out and away from of the
lanes of trac.
NOTE: Curves and/or hills may affect the safe place-
ment of warning indicators, such as safety reflectors,
cones, flares, etc. Extinguish flares before leaving the
emergency parking site.

NOTE: Along with other emergency equipment (re-
flectors, first-aid kit, etc.), it is good safety practice
to carry a reflective safety vest and wear it anytime
you are outside of your motorhome while stopped or
parked along a road or highway.

It is advisable to contact the Department of Motor Vehicles
in each respective state for up-to-date information
regarding operation and licensing requirements for your
motorhome and its drivers/operators.
e State of California requires operators of motorhomes
over 40 feet in length to obtain a non-commercial class
B license. California has also enacted legislation limiting
use of motorhomes in excess of 40 feet, to approved road-
ways. Other states or provinces may have driver/operator
restrictions and/or regulations pertaining to motorhome
operation.
