INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the TIMEMASTER TM-5J. This product has been designed and manufactured to provide years of trouble-free service. The TIMEMASTER
housing is water resistant but should not be exposed to direct high-pressure spray. TIMEMASTER is not sensitive to normal heat range conditions and is protected
against electromagnetic interference.
While the TIMEMASTER is an extremely rugged device and was designed for adequate protection of its components during normal usage, it is recommended that the
timer be enclosed in a sturdy housing (i.e. coin box or add-on box) to protect it from physical abuse.
Handle the TIMEMASTER as you would an expensive VCR or computer. While the unit has been designed for operation in a rugged environment, rough handling or
accidental abuse could cause damage.

ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
Hi-Performance Wash Systems, Inc. warrants the TIMEMASTER car wash timer and remote controller against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one
(1) year from the date of purchase. This warranty covers normal commercial use and does not cover damage that occurs in shipment or failure that results from alteration,
accident, misuse, abuse, or improper installation. Hi-Performance Wash Systems will, at their option, repair or replace warranted timers. Repairs of any type may be
obtained by sending the timer to Hi-Performance Wash Systems, Inc.
GENERAL OPERATION
The TIMEMASTER will time and control the functions associated with the operation of a single self-service car wash bay. The TIMEMASTER can also be used to time any
electrically powered device through the use of a power relay.
The customer will see the blue-green florescent display of the TIMEMASTER, which will be showing the minimum amount needed to start the car wash.
As coins are deposited, the display will show the balance due in $.25 increments. Once the minimum amount to start is deposited, the display will show the total amount of
time purchased. Additional coins may be deposited at any time to increase the total time.
When the minimum amount to start has been deposited and more that three (3) seconds elapse without the customer depositing additional coins, the timer will begin its
countdown showing minutes and seconds remaining. When one (1) minute remains in the timed cycle, the timer's horn output will activate for the programmed period and
the display will flash its reminder message as it counts down the final minute.
If the CHANGEOVER TIME harness has been wired and the timer programmed, the timer will stop timing for the programmed CHANGEOVER TIME period when that
selection is made. CHANGEOVER TIME can be connected to up to four (4) wash selections.
If the BONUS TIME program has been modified, customers will receive additional time for each coin they deposit after the minimum price to start has been deposited.
If the GRACE TIME program has been activated, customers may deposit one coin to restart the timer after the time has elapsed.

Overview

The TIMEMASTER TM-5J is a car wash timer and remote controller designed for use in self-service car wash bays. It is manufactured by Hi-Performance Wash Systems, Inc., a supplier of car wash equipment and parts to the Rocky Mountain Region. The device is built for durability and ease of use, offering a range of programmable features to optimize car wash operations.

Function Description:

The primary function of the TIMEMASTER TM-5J is to time and control the various operations within a single self-service car wash bay. It manages the duration of wash cycles based on coin deposits and can also control any electrically powered device through a power relay. The timer features a blue-green fluorescent display that shows the minimum amount required to start the car wash. As coins are deposited, the display updates to show the balance due in $0.25 increments, and once the minimum is met, it shows the total purchased time. The timer begins its countdown two seconds after the last coin deposit, displaying minutes and seconds remaining.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Input: 24 volts AC (neutral on pin 9, hot on pin 10). Voltage ratings applied to these pins are AC voltage 20 to 30 V.
  • Coin Acceptor Input: Maximum ratings for input pulse are 32 VAC or 30 VDC.
  • Coin Counter Output: 24 volt AC pulse to mechanical coin counter (pin 1).
  • Last Minute Alert Horn Output: 12 VDC, 30 mA (negative on pin 3, positive on pin 4). Hi-Performance Wash Systems provides a 12Vdc, 105dB, water-resistant alert horn for use with the TIMEMASTER timer.
  • Timed Output: 24 V AC to operate car wash equipment (pin 6). It is recommended to wire pin 6 to an isolation relay due to varying current requirements and for short circuit protection.
  • Memory: EEPROM memory, which retains programmed settings even when power is removed.
  • Housing: Water-resistant, but should not be exposed to direct high-pressure spray. Protected against electromagnetic interference.
  • Mounting: Designed to mount on a shelf or bracket inside the service panel of a stainless steel coin box. Secured with a wing nut to allow recoil if the coin box is struck, minimizing damage.
  • Remote Control: Compatible with the optional RC-1 infrared remote controller for programming and test functions.

Usage Features:

The TIMEMASTER TM-5J offers several features designed to enhance both customer experience and operator control:

  • Digital Display: Shows price to start, balance due, and time purchased.
  • One-Minute Alert: When one minute remains, the timer activates an alert horn (if installed) and flashes a "ADD...COINS...FOR...MORE...TIME" message on the display, alternating with the countdown. This alert can be programmed from 0 to 59 seconds.
  • Changeover Time: Allows the car wash operator to pause the timer's countdown during the wash cycle. This feature can be programmed for up to four wash selections, with a delay of up to 60 seconds. It activates only once per product selection during the total time purchased. This can be used to create a two-tiered pricing structure for different products (e.g., longer pauses for lower-cost selections).
  • Bonus Time: A programmable feature that increases the time per coin for deposits made after the minimum starting price has been reached. This incentivizes customers to spend more.
  • Grace Time: A programmable period after the purchased time expires, allowing customers to restart the timer with one coin within the programmed grace period. The display flashes "$.25...FOR...MORE...TIME" and the alert horn beeps to prompt the customer.
  • Test Time: Allows operators to test equipment and wash down the bay floor. The test time can be set in minutes, with 4 to 5 minutes typically sufficient.
  • Coin Counter: An output pulse (24V AC) is provided for a mechanical coin counter in the equipment room for accounting purposes. There is also a test time counter and a coin counter with a reset feature.
  • Programmable Settings: All features are programmable via MODE and SET push-button switches on the back of the timer case, or through the optional RC-1 infrared remote control.
  • Greeting Message: The display can be programmed to flash a greeting message along with the price to start, such as "WASH," "VAC," "RUN," "USE," "DRY," or "PLAY."
  • Security Code: A four-digit security code can be set for remote control functions to prevent unauthorized access.

Maintenance Features:

  • Durability: The TIMEMASTER is designed to be rugged, with components protected during normal usage.
  • Installation: The manual provides detailed instructions for mechanical and electrical installation, including wiring diagrams and pin assignments. It emphasizes proper connection to prevent damage, as timers damaged by incorrect connection are not covered by the warranty.
  • Troubleshooting: The remote control allows for testing functions (TEST, COIN COUNT, TEST CYCLES) to aid in maintenance and diagnostics without opening the coin box.
  • Reprogramming: The timer can be easily reprogrammed by following the initial setup instructions. Existing program values are displayed, allowing for quick modifications. A "POWER-ON RESTART" procedure (unplugging, holding MODE button, and replugging) can reset the timer to its factory default program (2 coins to start, 1 minute of time).
  • Warranty: A one-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal commercial use. It does not cover damage from alteration, accident, misuse, abuse, or improper installation. Repairs are obtained by sending the timer to Hi-Performance Wash Systems, Inc.
