The Titan ATV Tow-Behind Flail Mower is an attachment designed for use with All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) or Utility Task Vehicles (UTVs) to cut through tough terrain and heavy weeds. It is available in models AT100 and AT120, with part numbers 191530 and 191498 respectively.
Function Description:
The primary function of this device is to efficiently clear overgrown areas by cutting down heavy weeds and dense vegetation. It connects to the ball receiver of an ATV or UTV, allowing the vehicle to tow it across various terrains. The flail mower utilizes a series of blades attached to a rotating shaft (rotor) to cut and shred vegetation.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Engine: Briggs and Stratton 420cc XR Professional Series Engine.
- Horsepower: 13.5 Gross Horsepower.
- Starting System: Electric start.
- Engine Oil: 10W-30 grade SJ.
- Fuel: Regular gasoline.
- Blade System: Flail blades, designed for heavy-duty cutting.
- Towing Compatibility: Hooks up to the ball receiver on any ATV or UTV.
Usage Features:
- Terrain Versatility: Capable of cutting through tough terrain and heavy weeds.
- Cutting Height Adjustment: The cutting height can be adjusted by turning an adjustment handle.
- Clutch Operation: Features a manual clutch; the engine should always be started with the clutch disengaged. To commence cutting, the clutch should be engaged slowly.
- Forward Speed: The suitable forward speed depends on the material being cut. In difficult conditions, it is recommended to make two passes and adjust the cutting height for better results.
- Safety Precautions:
- Never attempt adjustments or clear obstructions unless the machine is completely at a standstill.
- Belt guards and safety guards should never be removed.
- Maintain a safe distance of at least 60 feet from people behind the mower during operation.
- Always wear a helmet, eye protection, and suitable robust clothing when riding an ATV.
- Do not operate under the influence of alcohol, non-prescription drugs, or certain prescription drugs.
- Always refer to the ATV handbook for information on coupling implements, weight capacity, and towing guidelines.
- Be aware that the ATV's handling characteristics will change dramatically with an attached implement.
- Ensure the implement's weight is within the ATV's drawbar loading or weight carrying capacity, especially on slopes.
- Never tow loads larger or heavier than recommended, or tow/turn across a slope.
- Exercise extreme caution on rough terrain, slippery surfaces, hillsides, and slopes.
- When traveling on roads, travel slowly and ensure compliance with Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations and insurance requirements.
- Never carry passengers on the implement.
- Assess and plan routes to avoid hazards like rocks, ditches, fences, potholes, and low-hanging branches.
- The risk of hazards may change in wet or wintery conditions; avoid slopes when possible.
- The mower should be level when checking oil in the gearbox to prevent overfilling.
- Be cautious of sharp objects and use a protective cover during maintenance.
Maintenance Features:
- Initial Inspection: After the first hour of operation, all nuts, bolts, screws, and fixings should be inspected and tightened. Subsequent inspections should be carried out at regular intervals.
- Belt Adjustment:
- Remove the belt cover.
- Loosen the clamping bolt.
- Tighten belts using the adjusting screw and lock off.
- Retighten the clamp bolt.
- Replace the belt cover.
- Lubrication (Daily - 8-10 working hours):
- Grease main rotor bearings.
- Grease roller bearings.
- Grease wheel bearings.
- Flail Blades Inspection: Inspect daily for damage. Damaged blades can cause rotor imbalance and severe mower damage. If vibration occurs, stop immediately and investigate for damaged blades or foreign objects.
- Flail Blades Changing:
- Unhitch the mower from the tractor/ATV and lift it to access the blades (preferably with a hoist or mechanical lifting equipment).
- Always fit new bolts and nuts when replacing flails.
- To maintain rotor balance, it is recommended to fit a full set of new blades. If only one or two blades are replaced, they should be fitted opposite to each other on the rotor.
- Engine Oil Check: Always check the engine oil level before starting the mower. Refer to the engine manufacturer's instructions for oil capacity and specifications.
- General Maintenance: Service the ATV and attachments as per the manufacturer's handbook to ensure optimal performance, safety, and longevity.
- Equipment Safety Inspection: Check tire pressure regularly, as incorrect pressure can seriously affect ATV handling. Maintain equipment to keep it in safe working order.
Troubleshooting Guide:
- Leaving wheel track uncut: Reduce forward speed, lower cutting height.
- Bad quality of cut: Reduce forward speed, replace blades, tighten belts.
- Narrow strip uncut: Inspect blades and replace as necessary.
- Excessive vibration: Inspect and replace damaged or missing blades, inspect the rotor, inspect and replace damaged main rotor bearings, check all nuts and bolts for tightness.
- Excessive scalping: Raise cutting height.
