What to do if secondary pressure cannot be adjusted on TLV COS-3?
    • D
      David NelsonAug 9, 2025
If the secondary pressure cannot be adjusted or increases abnormally, several issues may be at fault. The pilot screen, piston, or main valve might be clogged with dirt, requiring cleaning. Insufficient steam flow may also be the cause, so check the flow and replace the COS if necessary. Also, the piston ring may be worn, in this case replace it.

Why is my TLV COS-3 making abnormal noises?
    • J
      Jonathan BrownAug 19, 2025
Abnormal noises in the TLV Control Unit can be attributed to a few reasons. There might be too high a reduction ratio, in that case use two-stage reduction. Alternatively, the flow could be too great, requiring you to check the flow rate and use a larger size valve. Lastly, a nearby high-speed open/close valve can cause this issue, so install the valve as far away as possible.

What to do if TLV COS-3 is hunting or chattering?
    • P
      paynemichaelAug 25, 2025
Hunting or chattering in the TLV Control Unit can occur due to several reasons. It may be operating below the lower flow rate limit; check the volume of steam supply and replace with a smaller diameter valve if needed. Another cause could be too high a reduction ratio (operated at below 10% of the primary pressure); using a two-stage reduction arrangement may resolve this. The selected model might be inappropriate for the service conditions, so check the model selection and replace the COS if necessary. Lastly, condensate may be contained, or the trap is blocked; check the trap and the piping.

How to troubleshoot faulty steam trap in TLV COS-3?
    • M
      Michael AdamsAug 29, 2025
A faulty steam trap in the TLV Control Unit can be caused by several factors. There might be a build-up of dirt on the trap valve seat or at the float base, requiring cleaning. The body could be installed tilted, so check the piping. The float may be deformed (check for water hammer and replace with a new float) or have water inside (replace with a new float). Vibration in the piping (secure the piping), the primary pressure exceeding the trap valve seat maximum working pressure (adjust primary pressure), a clogged outlet piping (check and clean the piping), or a clogged trap valve seat (clean and replace with a new trap valve seat) can also be causes.

How to fix if secondary pressure does not rise in TLV COS-3 Control Unit?
    • T
      Tiffany FarleySep 3, 2025
If the secondary pressure does not rise in your TLV Control Unit, it could be due to a couple of reasons: either no steam is being supplied or the inlet valve is closed (check the valves and piping), or the entrance to the screens or strainer is clogged (clean or blow down).

What to do if secondary pressure cannot be adjusted (continued) on TLV COS-3 Control Unit?
    • B
      Brian SandersNov 13, 2025
If the secondary pressure cannot be adjusted or increases abnormally, it may be due to several reasons. The flow rate might exceed the rated flow rate, in this case you should check the flow rate and replace with a larger size if needed. Alternatively, the adjustment screw may have seized, requiring replacement with a new one. Other potential causes include a clogged small hole on the piston, wear on the piston ring (replace piston rings), a distorted or damaged diaphragm (replace with a new diaphragm), fluctuation in steam consumption (check the flow rate, replace the COS if necessary), an inappropriate model for the service conditions (check the model selection, replace the COS if necessary), a leaking bypass valve (check, clean, and replace if necessary), or dirt build-up/damage on the ...
