The stadia lines etched on the reticle can be used for
distance measurements.
1 Sight the staff, and count the number of
centimeters, l, between the two stadia lines.
2 This number is equivalent to the distance in
meters between the staff and the instrument.
Example:
If the length (l) is 32 cm, the horizontal distance
from the instrument center A to the staff B is 32 m.
