Adjust the brake assembly if free travel of brake pedĆ
al exceeds one inch or if braking power or parking
brake is not sufficient.
Stop engine and pull wire off spark plug.
Remove battery from chassis: refer to Activating
and Charging Battery, page 11.
Tighten locknut approximately 1/4 turn clockwise
(Fig. 25).

Check operation of the brake by pushing rider:
no brake drag should be evident. If drag is evident,
rotate locknut an additional 1/8 turn counterclockĆ
wise or until there is not contact.
Reinstall the battery: refer to Activating and
Charging Battery, page 11.
Make sure wire on starter motor terminal and
battery terminals are secured tightly.
Make sure two wires are connected to transmisĆ
sion interlock switch.
Push module connectors together to ensure a
connection.
Also check wires that connect to ignition switch
to ensure good contact.
Check all interlock switches to be sure wires are
not broken and connectors are making good conĆ
tact.

The safety interlock system is designed to prevent the
engine from starting unless:
The power take off (PTO) is disengaged OFF"
The transmission is in neutral
The safety interlock system also is designed to stop the
engine if:
While you are seated you engage the transmission
with the parking brake SET"
You rise from the seat when the power take off
(PTO) is ON" position or the transmission is not
in neutral.
Testing the Safety Interlock System
Test the safety interlock system before you use the maĆ
chine each time. If the safety system does not operate
as described below, have an Authorized Service Dealer
repair the safety system immediately.
Sit on the seat,SET" the parking brake and
move power take off (PTO) to ON". Withe transmisĆ
sion in neutral, try starting the engine; the engine
should not crank.
Sit on the seat,SET" the parking brake and
move power take off (PTO) to OFF". Move the transĆ
mission into any gear. Try starting the engine; the
engine should not crank.
Sit on the seat,SET" the parking brake, move
power take off (PTO) to OFF" and place transmisĆ
sion into neutral. Now start the engine. While the enĆ
gine is running engage the power take off (PTO) and
rise slightly from the seat; the engine should stop.
Sit on the seat,SET" the parking brake, move
power take off (PTO) to OFF" and place transmisĆ
sion into neutral. Now start the engine. While the enĆ
gine is running, depress the clutch and move the
transmission into gear; the engine should stop.
