9. If an adjustment is required, loosen the fixed idler on
the right support plate and move it up or down in the
adjustment slot (Fig. 61). To relieve the belt tension, lift
up on the spring loaded idler.

10. Check the belt tension again. The center bolt of the
spring loaded idler must be between the two alignment
holes in the left support plate (Fig. 60). Adjust it, if
necessary, and tighten all hardware securely.
11. If the fixed idler contacts the end of the adjustment slot
and more belt tension is required, a small change to
lengthen the push arms can be made (Fig. 62).
12. To adjust the push arms, loosen the jam nut and rotate
the ball joint counterclockwise, one turn at a time.
Adjust each side the same amount (Fig. 62).
Note: Increase the belt tension by lengthening the push
arms and decrease the belt tension by shortening the push
arms.
Important If the push arm lengths are changed, then
the mower deck must be leveled; refer to Adjusting the
Mower Level, page 41.

Replacing the Pump Drive Belt
Check the pump drive belt for wear after every 50 hours of
operation.
1. Pull the spring loaded idler down and remove the
traction belt from the engine and hydro pump pulleys
(Fig. 63). Remove the belt between the pulleys.
2. Install the new belt around the engine and hydro pump
pulleys (Fig. 63).
3. Pull the spring loaded idler down and align it below the
traction belt. Release the pressure on the spring loaded
idler (Fig. 63).

Adjusting the Parking Brake
Check the parking brake for proper adjustment.
1. Disengage the brake lever (lever down).
2. Measure the length of the spring. The measurement
should be 2-3/4 in. (70 mm) between the washers
(Fig. 64).
3. If an adjustment is necessary, loosen the jam nut below
the spring and tighten the nut directly below the yoke
(Fig. 64). Turn the nut until the correct measurement is
obtained. Tighten the two nuts together and repeat on
the opposite side of the unit.
4. Turn the nuts clockwise to shorten the spring length and
counterclockwise to lengthen the spring.
