Removing the Foam and Paper
Elements
1. P ark the mac hine on a lev el surface and
diseng ag e the blade control switc h.
2. Mo v e the motion control lev ers to the brak e
position, stop the engine , remo v e the k ey , and
w ait for all mo ving par ts to stop before lea ving
the operating position.
3. Clean around the air cleaner to prev ent dir t
from g etting into the engine and causing
damag e .
4. R emo v e the air cleaner co v er knobs and the
air cleaner co v er . Be careful to prev ent debris
from falling into the air cleaner base opening
( Figure 21 ).
5. R emo v e the foam filter element ( Figure 21 ).
6. R emo v e the paper filter element from the g rid
( Figure 21 ).

7. Inspect the paper and foam filters . R e place any
damag ed filters . Clean or re place dir ty filters .
Cleaning the Foam Element
1. W ash the foam element in w ar m, soapy
w ater or nonflammable solv ent. Squeeze the
element, but do not twist, and allo w it to dr y
thoroughly ( Figure 22 ). Do not use g asoline
as a cleaning solv ent.

Cleaning the Paper Filter
1. Lightly tap the element on a flat surface
to remo v e ex cess dust and dir t, or blo w
compressed air (not ex ceeding 30 psi
{207kP a}) through the filter from the inside
out ( Figure 24 ).
