Whenremovingorinstallingthebattery,
donotallowthebatteryterminalstotouch
anymetalpartsofthemachine.
Donotallowmetaltoolstoshortbetween
thebatteryterminalsandmetalpartsofthe
machine.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengage
theblade-controlswitch(PTO),andengagethe
parkingbrake.
2.Shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwait
forallmovingpartstostopbeforeleavingthe
operatingposition.
3.Raisetheseattoaccessthebattery.
4.Disconnectthenegative(black)groundcable
fromthebatterypost(Figure38).
Note:Retainallfasteners.

Incorrectlyremovingthecablesfrom
batterycoulddamagethemachineand
cables,causingsparks.Sparkscan
causethebatterygassestoexplode,
resultinginpersonalinjury.
Alwaysdisconnectthenegative
(black)batterycablebefore
disconnectingthepositive(red)
cable.
Alwaysconnectthepositive(red)
batterycablebeforeconnectingthe
negative(black)cable.
5.Slidetherubbercoveroffthepositive(red)
cable.
6.Disconnectthepositive(red)cablefromthe
batterypost(Figure38).
