1.Shutofftheengineandwaitforallmovingparts
tostop.
2.Disconnectthewirefromthesparkplug.
3.Cleanaroundthesparkplug.
4.Removethesparkplugfromthecylinderhead.
Important:Replaceacracked,fouled,or
dirtysparkplug.Donotcleantheelectrodes
becausegritenteringthecylindercan
damagetheengine.
5.Setthegapontheplugto0.76mm(0.030inch);
refertoFigure32.

2.Removethebeltcover(Figure9)byremoving
the4boltsthatholdittothemachinehousing.
3.Checkthebeltsforanycracks,frayededges,
burnmarks,oranyotherdamage.
4.Replacealldamagedbelts.
5.Ifyoureplacetheblade-drivebelt,youmust
adjustit.RefertoServicingtheBlade-Drive
System(page22).
6.Installthebeltcoverwiththe4boltsthatyou
removedinstep2.
EmptyingtheFuelTankand
CleaningtheFilter
ServiceInterval:Every50hours—Checkthefuel
hoseandreplaceitifnecessary.
Every100hours—Cleanthefueltanklter.
Yearlyorbeforestorage—Emptythefueltank
beforerepairsasdirectororbeforestorage.
Note:Thefueltanklter(screen)elementislocated
insidethefueltankattheoutlet.Thislterisapartof
thefueltankandcannotberemoved.
1.Shutofftheengineandwaitforittocooldown.
Important:Drainfuelfromacoldengine
only.
2.Disconnectthewirefromthesparkplug.
3.Closethefuel-shutoffvalve.
4.Disconnectthefuellinebylooseningthetube
clampatthecarburetor.
5.Openthefuel-shutoffvalveanddrainthefuel
completelyfromthetankandfuellineintoan
approvedfuelcontainer.
6.Removethefueltankfromthemachine.
7.Pourasmallamountoffuelinthefueltank,
movethefuelaroundinthetank,andpouritout
intoanapprovedfuelcontainer.
8.Installthefueltankandthefuelline.
ChangingtheFuelFilter

1.Shutofftheengineandwaitforallmovingparts
tostop.
2.Disconnectthewirefromthesparkplug.
3.Closethefuel-shutoffvalve(Figure33).
