Memory
Size
Configuration
memory
involves
selecting
how
much
RAM
the
system
uses
for
each
of
the
three
types
of
memory:
System
memory,
Extended
memory,
and
Expanded
memory
You
can
set
the
size
of
the
system
memory
either
to
512KB
or
640KB.
For
the
purposes
of
SETUP,
the
second
and
third
memory
types
are
interrelated.
Use
these
guidelines
to
set
Extended
memory
first:
o
Specify
the
size
of
extended
memory
in
0.5MB
decrements
from
the
maximum
available
to
OMB.
The
maximum
memory
you
have
depends
on
whether
or
not
the
memory
expansion
board
is
installed.The
preset
size
of
extended
memory
is
the
maximum
available.
o
Each
time
you
change
the
size
of
extended
memory,
you
also
change
the
size
of
expanded
memory.
Memory
not
used
as
extended
memory
is
automatically
allocated
by
the
system
as
expanded
memory.
Here
are
two
examples
of
how
this
procedure
works:
Memory
Example
1:
Memory
Example
2:
You
have
the
2MB
memory
kit
installed
(there's
a maximum
of
2MB
available
for
extended
memory).
You
specify
0.5MB
of
extended
memory.
The
system
automatically
allocates
1.5MB
as
expanded
memory.
You
have
the
memory
kit
installed
(there's
a maximum
of
4MB
available
for
extended
memory).
You
specify
2MB
of
extended
memory.
The
system
automatically
allocates
2MB
as
expanded
memory.
o
Specify
how
you
want
to
use
the
T3100e's
remaining
memory,
usually
384KB.
(This
is
the
system
memory
not
accounted
for
by
the
other
figures;
refer
back
to
the
discussion
of
memory
types
in
this
chapter
for
more
information.)
Set
this
value
through
the
Expanded
memory
value
of
the
Memory
size
option.
You
have
these
choices:
blank
No
additional
memory
is
allocated
for
expanded
memory.
The
only
memory
used
as
expanded
memory
is
what
was
automatically
assigned
due
to
your
choice
for
Extended
memory.
All
remaining
memory
(except
conventional
memory)
is
used
as
extended
memory.
384KB
All
memory
not
otherwise
allocated
is
reserved
for
expanded
memory,
in
addition
to
memory
allocated
by
your
choice
for
Extended
memory.
If
you
set
512KB
conventional
memory,
the
amount
of
possible
expanded
memory
increases
by
128KB.
Instead
of
OKB
and
384KB
for
these
values,
you
have
OKB
and
512KB,
respectively.
