Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the Tradesman MAGNESIUM Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The device described in this manual is a TRADESMAN Magnesium Series 15 Gauge 2-1/2" Angle Finish Nailer, Model #8560. It is a pneumatic air tool designed for driving finish nails.

Function Description

This pneumatic finish nailer is designed to drive 15 gauge finish nails ranging from 1-1/4" to 2-1/2" in length. It operates using compressed air and is intended for various fastening applications where finish nails are required. The tool offers both single-fire and rapid-fire (bump-fire) modes, providing versatility for different work demands.

In single-fire mode, the tool will not drive a second fastener until the trigger is fully released and pulled again, and the contact trip is pressed against the workpiece. This mode is suitable for precise placement of individual fasteners.

In rapid-fire mode, the user can pull and keep the trigger depressed to ensure continuous operation. A fastener will be fired each time the contact trip is pressed against the workpiece, allowing for faster work on larger areas.

The tool features a safety lock on the nosepiece that must be placed firmly onto the work surface to prevent accidental firings. It also includes a safety switch located inside the trigger to prevent accidental operation. To lock the trigger, the cover of the trigger is pulled towards the rear of the unit. To unlock, the cover is released (pushed forward). A key lock or tie strip can be placed in the slot for safety storage.

A tapered nosepiece enhances visibility for precise fastener placement, and a large capacity magazine with a quick-action latch makes loading fasteners easy. The exhaust port is adjustable, allowing the user to direct the exhaust air away from the workpiece or their face. A belt hook is integrated into the tool for convenient carrying.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model Number: 8560
  • Nail Gauge: 15 Gauge
  • Nail Fastener Length: 1-1/4" ~ 2-1/2"
  • Air Inlet Size: 1/4" NPT
  • Recommended Operating Pressure Range: 70 ~ 120 psi
  • Magazine Capacity: Up to 110 pcs
  • Air Supply Requirements: The compressed air power source must be pressure-regulated, with the regulated pressure not exceeding the maximum air pressure marked on the tool. If a regulator fails, the pressure delivered to the tool must not exceed 1.5 times the maximum air pressure, or 180 PSI, whichever is greater. Air supply hoses must have a minimum working pressure rating equal to or greater than the pressure from the power source if a regulator fails, or 120 PSI, whichever is greater.
  • Fastener Depth Adjustment: The contact trip can be adjusted to control the depth at which fasteners are driven into the workpiece. This adjustment is made by rotating the depth adjustment knob.

Usage Features

  • Loading Fasteners:
    1. Disconnect the air hose.
    2. Insert a stick of fasteners into the opening at the rear of the magazine, ensuring the point ends rest on the bottom edge.
    3. Slide the magazine fastener slide towards the rear of the tool until it locks the fasteners into position.
  • Unloading Fasteners:
    1. Slide the magazine fastener towards the rear of the tool by pressing the slides' center button, then releasing the latch.
    2. Remove fasteners from the opening at the rear of the magazine.
  • Connecting to Air Supply:
    1. Add one drop of air tool oil into the air inlet daily before use.
    2. Empty all fasteners from the magazine before connecting.
    3. Connect the tool to an air compressor using a 3/8" I.D. hose with a rated working pressure exceeding 200 PSI (13.8 bar).
    4. The manual recommends installing an oiler and filter in the air supply line for optimal performance and longevity.
  • Safety Features:
    • Safety Lock on Nosepiece: Prevents accidental firing by requiring firm placement on the work surface.
    • Safety Switch (Trigger Lock): Prevents accidental operation by locking the trigger.
    • Warning Labels: Remind users of critical safety precautions.
    • General Safety Rules: Emphasize wearing personal protective equipment (eye, face, head, hearing, foot protection), never pointing the tool at oneself or others, and always assuming the tool contains fasteners.
  • Fastener Depth Adjustment: The contact trip can be adjusted to control the depth of fastener penetration. This allows for precise control over how deep the nails are driven into different materials.

Maintenance Features

  • Lubrication: Place a maximum of one drop of air tool oil in the air inlet daily before use. Over-oiling can cause air leakage. The manual recommends using an oiler in the air supply line to ensure consistent lubrication and increase tool efficiency and life.
  • Moisture Management: Check and drain any moisture from the air tank of the compressor regularly. Failure to do so can damage the interior of the nailer and cause jamming or air leakage. The manual recommends using a filter in the air supply line to remove liquids and impurities, which can rust or wear internal parts of the tool. The filter must be checked daily and drained if necessary.
  • Clearing Jams:
    • Fastener Jammed in Discharge Area: Disconnect the tool from the air hose, remove all fasteners from the magazine, open the cover plate guard (A), pull up the clamp handle (B), and use pliers to remove the jammed fastener.
    • Fastener Jammed Inside the Magazine: Disconnect the air tool from the air hose, slide the magazine fastener towards the rear by pressing the center button, releasing the latch, and then use pliers to remove the jammed fastener.
  • Cleaning: Never use gasoline or other flammable liquids to clean the tool, as vapors can ignite and cause an explosion, leading to serious injury or death. When removing tar buildup from the nosepiece, do not allow solvent to get into the cylinder, as damage may occur. After cleaning, thoroughly dry the tool before operating it again.
  • Repair and Parts: Only qualified personnel should repair the tool using parts supplied or recommended by the manufacturer. The employer is responsible for ensuring that repair personnel have access to the necessary instructions and parts. Replacement parts are available at current prices, and prices can be quoted in advance if requested. Warranty service requires dated proof of purchase.
