The Trailer Valet MV Pro is a robust and versatile trailer maneuvering device designed to simplify the process of hitching, unhitching, and moving trailers with precision. Constructed from high-strength steel and finished with a powder coat to resist corrosion from the elements and marine use, the MV Pro is built for years of reliable service. It attaches to the coupler of a trailer tongue using a specially designed Ball Attachment, making it an indispensable tool for trailer owners.
Function Description:
The primary function of the MV Pro is to provide controlled and easy movement of trailers, particularly in situations where traditional vehicle maneuvering is difficult or impossible. It allows users to precisely position their trailers, whether for parking in tight spaces, aligning with a tow vehicle, or moving them around a property. The device can be operated manually with a hand crank or powered by a drill/driver for enhanced convenience and efficiency. Its design emphasizes safety and control, with features like a steering/brake handle that disengages the brake when lifted, allowing for smooth movement. The MV Pro is engineered for vertical loading, and users are cautioned against excessive side forces to prevent failure. It is intended for use on solid surfaces like paved areas or compact gravel and soils free of debris, as traction is crucial for its operation. In cases of insufficient traction on solid surfaces, shifting the trailer's weight forward is recommended.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Wheel Size: 9.0 inches
- Tongue Max Weight: 1,400 lbs.
- Trailer Max Weight: 14,000 lbs.
- Weight of Unit: 50 lbs.
- Maximum Dimensions: 29.6" H x 27.4" L x 8.4" W
- Material: High-strength steel with a powder coat finish.
- Operating Surface: Paved surfaces or compact gravel and soils free of debris.
- Slope/Incline Limit: Maximum of 10 degrees on a paved/concrete surface. This rating is subject to various factors, including surface type, weight distribution, weight capacity changes, and use on multi-axle trailers. The unit must always be on the lower end of any incline.
Usage Features:
The MV Pro offers flexible operation and installation methods:
Installation:
- On Coupler:
- Ensure the trailer height is appropriate and the installation surface is flat and solid.
- Set up the hitch ball and ball base. An optional ball converter is available for 2-5/16" couplers.
- Attach the hitch ball with the ball base to the coupler and tighten securely using the spanner wrench.
- Lower the hitch towards the unit's rotating coupler using the trailer jack and attach the rotation pin to secure it.
- Verify that the MV Pro is securely tightened and not rocking.
- Onto Jack (JX2-S & JX5-S models):
- Check trailer height and ensure installation on a flat, solid surface.
- For JX5-S, install the mounting bracket into the trailer frame.
- For JX2-S, install the Side Jack onto the trailer frame via the mounting bracket. For JX5-S, connect the Side Jack via a pipe mount to the bracket and insert a stow pin, locking it with a security bolt.
- Lower the hitch towards the unit's rotating coupler and attach the rotation pin to secure it.
Operation:
- Safety First: Always ensure the operator and bystanders are aware of load stability. The trailer jack should be kept close to the ground to prevent damage from unexpected failures.
- Brake Disengagement: If the trailer has built-in brakes, they must be disengaged before operating the MV Pro.
- Handling: When operating, one hand should firmly grip the brake, and the other the drill/driver (if used). The Steering Handle must be held up firmly at all times to disengage the brake when moving the trailer.
- Driver Attachment:
- Manual Operation: Attach the Hand Crank to the Low or High Gear Driveshaft.
- Drill Adapter Operation: Connect the drill/driver chuck to the Drill Adapter, securing it tightly. Align and insert the Drill Adapter to the Low Gear Driveshaft.
- Movement Control:
- Begin cranking slowly, gradually increasing power.
- Steering should only occur when the unit is cranking and the trailer is moving to avoid excessive stress on a single tire.
- For sharp turns from a stationary position, crank the MV Pro back and forth while turning until the unit is in the desired position, then proceed with the turn.
- Incline Use: The MV Pro should not be used on slopes or inclines exceeding 10 degrees on paved/concrete surfaces. It must always be on the lower end of any incline. Pulling up or pushing down an incline is prohibited. Use of a power drill is inadvisable for movement on any incline.
- Drill Usage: DO NOT use a drill on the high gear. DO NOT use impact drills. Ensure the drill battery is fully charged.
Maintenance Features:
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and proper functioning of the MV Pro.
- Before First Use:
- Read and understand the operating instructions and your drill/driver operator's manual.
- Before Each Use:
- Inspect the MV Pro for any damage. Replace damaged parts immediately.
- If the device remains attached to the trailer, check the Locking Nut to ensure it's tightly fastened against the trailer tongue and flat against the coupler.
- Keep the device free from contaminants, removing dirt and debris from moving parts.
- Every 90 Days:
- Apply multipurpose grease to the chain by removing the front cover.
- Apply multipurpose grease to the gear bushings.
- Additional Tips:
- If used in a marine environment or where road salt is encountered, rinse the interior and exterior with fresh water and allow to dry. DO NOT submerge the MV Pro.
- After each use, wipe exterior surfaces with a clean cloth.
The MV Pro is a carefully engineered device, and adherence to the operating and maintenance guidelines is essential for safe and effective use, ensuring years of service for trailer owners.
