Why is my Trane Heat Pump making sounds?
    • V
      vharrisJul 29, 2025
A slight cracking sound may be heard when your Trane Heat Pump starts because the electronic expansion valve is initializing. Also, cracking sounds can occur during and after operation as the unit panels expand or contract due to temperature changes. The sound of gas refrigerant flowing and the drainage system operating can also be heard when the unit is running or after running.

      fsmithAug 8, 2025
If your Trane Heat Pump doesn't run, it might be due to the overload protection switch delaying the start for three minutes, especially if the unit was just turned off. It could also be in standby for one minute after being powered on.

If your Trane Heat Pump's indoor unit continues to run after being switched off, it's normal. The fan motor will keep running for 20-70 seconds. This is to utilize excess cooling or heating and prepare the unit for its next operation.
