Overview

This manual describes the Trane Split System (R-410A) air conditioning unit, designed for cooling-only applications. It provides comprehensive installation guidelines, technical specifications, and safety warnings for qualified personnel. The unit is a high-efficiency 13 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) system, operating at 60Hz, with cooling capacities ranging from 9,000 to 24,000 BTU/Hr.

Function Description:

The Trane Split System is an air conditioning unit composed of an indoor unit (evaporator) and an outdoor unit (condenser). Its primary function is to provide cooling for residential or commercial spaces. The system utilizes R-410A refrigerant, a hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) that operates at higher pressures than older refrigerants like R-22. The indoor unit is typically wall-mounted and circulates cooled air within the room, while the outdoor unit dissipates heat to the environment. The system is controlled via a wireless remote controller, allowing users to adjust settings such as temperature, mode (COOL, HEAT, FAN), and fan speed.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Refrigerant Type: R-410A. It is crucial to use only R-410A approved service equipment due to the higher operating pressures (50 to 70% higher than R-22). Refrigerant cylinders for R-410A are typically pink and may contain a "dip" tube for liquid refrigerant charging.
  • Oil Type: PVE oil (Polyvinyl Ether Oil). This oil is hygroscopic, meaning it readily absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. The system should remain sealed whenever possible. If exposed to the atmosphere for more than 4 hours, the compressor oil must be replaced. Factory recommended oil is DAFNE HERMETIC OIL FV50S.
  • SEER Rating: 13 SEER, indicating high energy efficiency.
  • Frequency: 60Hz.
  • Cooling Capacity: Ranges from 9,000 to 24,000 BTU/Hr.
  • Indoor Unit Models: 4MCW3-A, 4MCW3-B (Cooling only).
  • Outdoor Unit Models: 4TTK3-A, 4TTK3-B (Cooling only).
  • Connection Pipe Specifications (for 13 SEER, 60 Hz models):
    • 4MCW3509A1AA / 4TTK3509A1AA: Refrigerant Charge: 2.2 lbs (R-410A), Length: 8m, Gas additional charge: 30 g/m, Liquid Pipe: 6mm (1/4"), Gas Pipe: 12mm (1/2"), Height: 5m, Max Distance: 10m.
    • 4MCW3512A1AA / 4TTK3512A1AA: Refrigerant Charge: 2.3 lbs (R-410A), Length: 8m, Gas additional charge: 30 g/m, Liquid Pipe: 6mm (1/4"), Gas Pipe: 12mm (1/2"), Height: 5m, Max Distance: 10m.
    • 4MCW3518B1AA / 4TTK3518B1AA: Refrigerant Charge: 4.84 lbs (R-410A), Length: 8m, Gas additional charge: 40 g/m, Liquid Pipe: 9.52mm (3/8"), Gas Pipe: 16mm (5/8"), Height: 10m, Max Distance: 15m.
    • 4MCW3524B1AA / 4TTK3524B1AA: Refrigerant Charge: 5.07 lbs (R-410A), Length: 8m, Gas additional charge: 40 g/m, Liquid Pipe: 9.52mm (3/8"), Gas Pipe: 16mm (5/8"), Height: 10m, Max Distance: 15m.
  • Tightening Torque for Flare Nuts:
    • 6mm - 1/4": 15-20 N-m
    • 9.5mm - 3/8": 31-35 N-m
    • 12mm - 1/2": 50-55 N-m
    • 16mm - 5/8": 60-65 N-m
  • Piping Hole Diameter: 65mm for wall penetration.
  • Indoor Unit Clearance: More than 200cm from the floor.
  • Electrical Interference: Indoor unit should be more than 1 meter away from other electric appliances (television, audio devices, etc.).

Usage Features:

  • Wireless Remote Control: Allows convenient adjustment of operating modes (COOL, HEAT, FAN) and other settings.
  • Manual Switch: An alternative control option on the indoor unit.
  • Air Filters: Easily removable for cleaning, contributing to better indoor air quality.
  • Installation Flexibility: Piping can be connected in six different locations on the indoor unit (right, right rear, right downward, left, left rear, left downward) to accommodate various installation scenarios.
  • Cooling Only: The specific models covered in this manual (4MCW and 4TTK units) are designed for cooling operation only.

Maintenance Features:

  • Air Filter Access: The design allows for easy removal of air filters for routine cleaning or replacement.
  • Leakage Test: The installation process includes a mandatory air purging and leakage test using soap water or a leak hunting meter to ensure system integrity.
  • Vacuum Evacuation: A vacuum pump is used during installation to evacuate the system to -1.0x10^5 pa (-76cmHg) for at least 15 minutes, ensuring proper system performance and preventing moisture contamination.
  • Drainage System: The indoor unit includes a water drain pipe for condensing water, which must be insulated and placed at a downward slant to ensure proper drainage. Heat pump type outdoor units also have a condensation drainage system.
  • Service Access: Sufficient space must be left around the indoor and outdoor units to allow access for routine maintenance.
  • Qualified Personnel Requirement: All installation, startup, and servicing must be performed by qualified and licensed personnel due to the hazardous nature of working with heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning equipment, especially concerning electrical components and high-pressure refrigerants.
  • Lockout/Tagout Procedures: Strict adherence to lockout/tagout procedures is required before servicing to prevent inadvertent energization and ensure safety.
  • Refrigerant Handling: Technicians must be certified in refrigerant handling, reclaiming, recovering, and recycling, adhering to Federal Clean Air Act (Section 608) requirements and any additional state or municipal regulations.
  • PVE Oil Management: Due to the hygroscopic nature of PVE oil, the system should be kept sealed. If opened for more than 4 hours, the compressor oil must be replaced, and driers should always be changed when opening the system for component replacement.
