Function Description:

The Motorized Outside Air Damper is an accessory that controls the amount of outside air introduced into the Precedent™ Packaged Rooftop Units. This control is crucial for maintaining indoor air quality and optimizing energy efficiency by regulating ventilation. The damper can modulate from 0% to 50% open, allowing for precise adjustment of fresh air intake. The installation instructions detail how to physically integrate the damper assembly into the rooftop unit and how to configure its operation, particularly for downflow applications. The minimum position setting can be adjusted to meet specific ventilation requirements, ensuring adequate fresh air supply while the blower circuit is energized.

Electrical Requirements: The installation involves wiring to the fresh air options module (FAOM-J11) and the actuator connector, requiring power to be connected for setup and operation. All electrical work must adhere to NEC and local/state/national electrical codes.

Usage Features:

Ventilation Control: Allows for precise control over the percentage of outside air introduced into the building, ranging from 0% to 50%. This is essential for demand-controlled ventilation and maintaining indoor air quality.
Minimum Position Setting: The damper's minimum ventilation position can be adjusted using the Symbio service and installation mobile app or the Symbio™ 700 on-board UI. This feature ensures a baseline level of fresh air is always supplied when the blower circuit is energized.
Downflow Configuration: Specific instructions are provided for configuring the damper assembly for downflow operation, which involves adjusting its position and securing it with screws and a bottom blockoff.
Integration with Unit Control: After installation, the Symbio™ 700 UC unit configuration needs to be updated to reflect the newly installed damper option, ensuring proper communication and control.
Actuator Control Harness: A supplied harness (PPF87) connects the actuator to the fresh air options module, facilitating electrical control of the damper.

Maintenance Features:

Installation Inspection: Before and during installation, users are instructed to carefully inspect all components for shipping damage. Any damage must be reported immediately to the transportation company, and concealed damage within 15 days. Damaged material should not be removed from the receiving location until inspected by the carrier's representative.
Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes critical safety warnings, particularly regarding hazardous voltage and capacitors. Technicians are required to power down the outdoor unit, follow lockout/tagout procedures, wait for at least 15 minutes for high DC voltage to discharge, and verify discharge with a CAT III or IV voltmeter rated per NFPA 70E before making contact with the inverter circuit board or performing any electrical work.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Strict adherence to PPE requirements (e.g., cut-resistant gloves/sleeves, butyl gloves, safety glasses, hard hat/bump cap, fall protection, electrical PPE, and arc flash clothing) is mandated for all installation and servicing tasks to prevent death or serious injury. Technicians must consult Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and OSHA guidelines for proper PPE and handling of hazardous chemicals.
Qualified Personnel: Installation and servicing must only be performed by qualified personnel with specific knowledge and training in heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning equipment to avoid hazardous situations.
Regular Checks: The minimum position setting procedure includes checking the economizer's operation, ensuring the damper opens to the setpoint each time the blower circuit is energized. This implies a need for periodic verification of damper functionality.
Gasket Material: For FIADMPR103* installations, instructions include removing approximately 3 inches of gasket material from the bottom of each corner post to expose attachment holes, and sealing indicated areas with field-supplied silicone sealant when reinstalling the end panel. This suggests attention to maintaining an airtight seal for optimal performance.
