Overview

This document outlines the installation and maintenance procedures for the IQ422, IQ4NC/00, and IQ4NC/12 Controllers. These instructions are intended for trained service personnel only, as improper use may impair the device's protection.

Function Description

The IQ422, IQ4NC/00, and IQ4NC/12 are controllers designed for energy management systems. They facilitate connections for various inputs and outputs, including universal inputs, analogue outputs, auxiliary supply outputs, and network interfaces like Trend Current Loop, MS/TP, XNC, Wallbus, and Serial MODBUS. The controllers are capable of managing and monitoring different aspects of a building's energy consumption and environmental controls.

Power Supply:

  • 230 Vac Variants:
    • Input: 230 Vac ±10% 50/60 Hz, up to 44 VA
    • Requires a dedicated 5 A fuse (IEC60269/BS1362) and a suitably rated switch for disconnection.
    • Must be earthed (grounded).
  • 24 Vac Variants:
    • Input: 24 Vac ±10% 50/60 Hz, up to 28 VA
    • Requires a suitably rated switch for disconnection.
    • If the supply transformer's secondary is earthed, it MUST be connected to the controller's 0V terminal (terminal 2).
    • UL rated as 'UL916 listed open energy management equipment'.
  • Terminal Specifications (Power & Inputs/Outputs):
    • Terminal Size: 0.14 to 2.5 mm² (22 to 12 AWG)
    • Terminal Screw Torque: 0.45 to 0.62 Nm (4 to 5.5 lb.in)
    • Power supply cable must have a maximum operating temperature of at least 80°C (176°F). For UL rating, input power connections must use 18 AWG or larger wire rated at least 90°C (194°F).

Universal Inputs (IN1 to IN6):

  • Input Types: Voltage (0 to 10 V), Thermistor (10 kohm, potentiometer 1 to 11 kohm), Digital (volt-free contact, open collector, logic circuit TTL/CMOS), Current Loop.
  • For UL rating, use 22 to 14 AWG - Cu only cable. TP/1/1/22/HF/200 (Belden 8761) cable recommended.
  • Screened cable is generally not required unless in noisy environments; if used, the screen must be connected to the local panel/enclosure ground and left unterminated at the far end.

Analogue Outputs (OUT7 to OUT12):

  • Output: 0 to 10 Vdc at up to 20 mA (reduced to 18 mA maximum above +40°C).
  • For UL rating, use 22 to 14 AWG - Cu only cable. TP/1/1/22/HF/200 (Belden 8761) cable recommended.
  • Screened cable guidelines are similar to universal inputs.

Auxiliary Supply Output:

  • Output: 20 Vdc ±10%.
  • 230 Vac Variants: 120 mA maximum shared between terminals 70, 71, plus 120 mA maximum from terminal 72.
  • 24 Vac Variants: 240 mA maximum shared between all three terminals (70, 71, 72). Reduce to 200 mA above 40 °C.
  • Combined current from auxiliary supply outputs, Wallbus, RS232, and analogue outputs is 240 mA. Exceeding this may cause the output voltage to fall out of specification.

Network Interfaces:

  • Trend Current Loop Network:
    • Terminal Size: 0.14 to 2.5 mm² (22 to 12 AWG).
    • Maximum cable length depends on cable type and baud rate (e.g., 1000m for Belden 8723 at 1k2 baud).
    • Adjacent devices may specify different maximum cable lengths and baud rates; the shortest length applies.
    • If enabled, LAN communications require an intact network or a loop back fitted if no network is present.
  • MS/TP Trunk (IQ4NC only):
    • Cable: Tinned copper, screened, twisted-pair with characteristic impedance 100-130 ohms. Distributed capacitance <100 pF/m (conductors) and <200 pF/m (conductors to screen).
    • Maximum recommended length: 1200 meters (4000 feet) with AWG 18 (0.82 mm²) cable.
    • Supports up to 3 repeaters between devices.
    • Earthing: All ground terminals and 24 Vac power supply neutrals must connect to panel/enclosure ground.
    • Screen: Single point screen ground, continuous, not grounded via controller terminal. Ground screen at one end, cut back at the other.
    • Terminators: Bus must be terminated at each end with a 100-130 ohm, ±1%, 1 Watt resistor. IQ4NC has a built-in terminator.
    • Maximum Devices: Up to 64 IQeco's or other manufacturers' devices, supporting up to 32 'unit' loads (IQeco, IQ4NC, IQ3/BINC are 1¼ BACnet 'unit' loads).
    • Biassing: IQ4NC provides network biassing (470 ohms); maximum two devices can provide biassing.
  • XNC Interface (RS-485, RS-232, Ethernet):
    • RS-485 2-wire system: 32 devices maximum. Terminal size 0.14 to 2.5 mm² (22 to 12 AWG). Terminator switch for 120 Ohm termination.
    • RS-232 system (local supervisor port): RJ12/FFC68 Plug. Not usable for supervisory tools when used for XNC.
    • Earthing & Isolation: If units are in the same cabinet with the same power supply, good physical earth is required. If in different cabinets or with different power supplies, cabinets must be isolated. Surge protection recommended for bus problems.
  • Wallbus:
    • Terminal Size: 0.14 to 2.5 mm² (22 to 12 AWG).
    • Cable Type: Unscreened twisted pair.
    • Maximum Cable Length: 60 m (200 ft).
